Patent number: 8140852Abstract: A system for authenticating a serialized commodity is presented. A fixed identification, serial number, and authentication code are received for a serialized commodity to be checked for authenticity. A reference table is searched for an entry that matches the received fixed identification. In response to finding an entry in the reference table that matches the received fixed identification, a fixed identification key is retrieved from the reference table that is associated with the received fixed identification. A recreated authentication code is generated for the serialized commodity using the retrieved fixed identification key, the received fixed identification, and the received serial number. Then, it is determined whether the recreated authentication code matches the received authentication code. In response to determining that the recreated authentication code does match the received authentication code, an authentication code match message is outputted to authenticate the serialized commodity.Type: GrantFiled: June 16, 2008Date of Patent: March 20, 2012Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Erich Guenter, Mark Edmund Maresh, Thomas S. Patent number: 8082306Abstract: A system are blocks and filters e-mails at the enterprise level. Incoming e-mails having an incoming domain are received at an e-mail server. Incoming domains are compared to a list of blocked domains. in response to identifying the incoming domain within the list of blocked domains, the incoming e-mail is blocked from delivery to an intended recipient. Incoming domains are then compared to a first predefined category. If the incoming domain is identified within the first predefined category, the intended recipient is compared to the first distribution list. If the intended recipient is identified within the first distribution list, then the incoming e-mail is delivered to the intended recipient.Type: GrantFiled: July 25, 2007Date of Patent: December 20, 2011Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Mark Edmund Maresh, Eric Allen Stegner, Kimberly Irene Stegner

Publication number: 20110142563Abstract: A flexible system is provided for preventing freight damage during shipment. The system has adjustable and interlocking hinged panels that are attached to the side walls of a shipping enclosure, so that the system can be readily adapted to secure different types and sizes of loads. One embodiment of the invention, provided for use with a freight carrying enclosure that has an internal wall, includes first and second panel segments that each have an edge. A first mounting structure supports the first panel segment for rotation about a vertical axis, between a first position wherein the first panel segment is in perpendicular relationship with the wall, and a second position wherein the first panel segment is in abutting relationship with the wall. A second mounting structure joins the first and second panel segments together along their respective edges, and enables rotation of the second panel between vertical and horizontal orientations.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 24, 2011Publication date: June 16, 2011Applicant: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Mark Edmund Maresh, Eric Allen Stegner, Robert William Stegner
