Patent number: 11679030Abstract: A surgical system for performing a capsulotomy of a lens capsule of an eye includes an elastic ring, a suction cup, an interface, a converter, and a control console. The elastic ring includes a conductive surface. The interface may be coupled to an air port and/or a fluid line of a phacomachine. The converter detects a pulse of air from the phacomachine via the interface, and produce an electrical signal in response. Fluid received from the phacomachine is delivered into the suction cup. The system is configured to remove the fluid from the suction cup and between the suction cup and a surface of the eye to form a suction seal. The control console is configured to, in response to receiving the electrical signal, drive a series of electrical pulses through the conductive surface of the elastic ring, causing the elastic ring to perform a tissue cutting operation.Type: GrantFiled: November 7, 2022Date of Patent: June 20, 2023Assignee: CENTRICITY VISION, INC.Inventors: Brandon Jay Lum, Mark Evan Steen, Leonard Richard Borrmann

Publication number: 20210330493Abstract: A multi-channel drive system for a piezoelectric actuator having a multiple-frequency resonant mode, the system including multiple signal generators, multiple feedback circuitries, and a processor. The multiple signal generators are configured to generate multiple respective drive signals at multiple respective drive signal frequencies, and to drive the piezoelectric actuator with the multiple drive signals. The multiple feedback circuitries are configured to measure multiple respective feedback signals at the multiple drive signal frequencies. The processor is configured to adaptively maintain the piezoelectric actuator vibrating in the multiple-frequency resonant mode, by adjusting the drive signal frequencies in response to the respective measured feedback signals.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 23, 2020Publication date: October 28, 2021Inventors: Mark Evan Steen, Vadim Gliner, Assaf Govari

Publication number: 20140275751Abstract: Embodiments of a collagen-based ophthalmic interface for reducing patient eye movement are disclosed. In one embodiment, an ophthalmic interface serving as a partial barrier between a patient's eye and a surgical laser system includes an annular-shaped collagen-based shield configured to overlay the anterior surface of the eye. The shield is applied directly to the eye with an eyelid speculum, and reduces eye movement by adding friction to the surface of the eye. In another embodiment, a collagen-based material coats an attachment ring of a conical interface for coupling a patient's eye to a surgical laser system. The collagen-based coat glues the surface of the eye to the conical interface, reducing eye movement, and simultaneously eliminating the need for vacuum suction to hold the device in place. The gap in the middle of the annular-shaped collagen-coated attachment ring is filled with a liquid whose refractive index matches that of the cornea.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 26, 2014Publication date: September 18, 2014Inventors: Robert G. Publication number: 20020052617Abstract: To reduce damage to surrounding tissue while fragmenting some tissue such as for example not damaging the capsular wall while removing the lens during cataract removal surgery or not damaging artery or vein walls during bypass surgery while freeing the artery or vein to be transplanted, an incision is made for the insertion of a handpiece tip. The tip is rotated and reciprocated ultrasonically at the same time so that tissue is fragmented by the combined motion of a fragmenting surface perpendicular to the surface and at an angle to the surface many times during a single revolution or part of a revolution.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 4, 2001Publication date: May 2, 2002Applicant: Aziz Yehia AnisInventors: Aziz Yehia Anis, Mark Evan Steen

Patent number: 6217543Abstract: To reduce damage to surrounding tissue while fragmenting some tissue such as for example not damaging the capsular wall while removing the lens during cataract removal surgery or not damaging artery or vein walls during bypass surgery while freeing the artery or vein to be transplanted, an incision is made for the insertion of surface—a handpiece tip. The tip is rotated and reciprocated ultrasonically at the same time so that tissue is fragmented by the combined motion of a fragmenting surface perpendicular to the surface and at an angle to the surface many times during a single revolution or part of a revolution.Type: GrantFiled: December 27, 1999Date of Patent: April 17, 2001Assignee: Aziz Yehia AnisInventors: Aziz Y. Patent number: 5730718Abstract: To reduce damage to surrounding tissue while fragmenting some tissue such as for example not damaging the capsular wall while removing the lens during cataract removal surgery or not damaging artery or vein walls during bypass surgery while freeing the artery or vein to be transplanted, an incision is made for the insertion of surface-discriminating, rotating, fragmenting handpiece. The surface-discriminating fragmenting handpiece fragments and permits aspiration of the tissue without damaging the surrounding wall by fragmenting surfaces of higher inertia material but moving at a rate of speed and having openings between them of such a size that the more integrated lower mass, more flexible and smoother tissue is moved away from the fragmenting zone and the higher mass, lower flexibility or rougher tissue is fragmented.Type: GrantFiled: April 29, 1996Date of Patent: March 24, 1998Assignee: Aziz Yehia AnisInventors: Aziz Yehia Anis, Mark Evan Steen
