  • Publication number: 20110151414
Abstract: The present invention provides a single score (or point value) that can be derived for each foodstuff from the glycemic score (or estimate) and/or the insulin score (or estimate) for the foodstuff combined with one or more macronutrient variables for the foodstuff. This single score, which encompasses many qualities of a foodstuff is called the Smart Score. The Smart Score is useful, for example, because it provides a marker for the relative healthfulness of each foodstuff. The present invention also provides that foodstuffs can be ranked according to the Smart Score for each foodstuff, thereby creating an index. This index is called the Smart Index. The Smart Index is useful, for example, for knowing how one foodstuff compares to another in terms of health benefit or adversity.

  • Patent number: 6203823
Abstract: Use of calcium taurate as an antihypertensive agent and dietary supplement. The compound is prepared by reacting taurine and calcium in a 2:1 molar ratio. The resulting mixture is diluted with alcohol and the remaining clear filtrate is crystallized. Calcium taurate is taken orally as a nutritional supplement or antihypertensive agent, and can be used as an adjuvant to conventional antihypertensive drugs.

  • Patent number: 5929066
Abstract: A method for treating Type II diabetes by administering to an affected individual a combination of chromic tripicolinate and biotin. The two compounds are administered orally or parenterally at in daily dosages which provide between 50 and 1,000 .mu.g of chromium and between 25 .mu.g and 200 mg biotin, the amounts of chromium and biotin being selected together to provide a greater than additive effect.

  • Patent number: 5914326
Abstract: A method for promoting weight and fat loss comprising administering to an individual in need thereof hydroxycitrate, carnitine and an agent which promotes the rapid intramitochondrial generation of oxaloacetate or induces endogenous production of pyruvate. This method also promotes an increase in lean body mass.
