  • Publication number: 20080158332
Abstract: A method and apparatus for processing and inspecting pellet-shaped articles, comprises structure for of the step of conveying the plurality of pellet-shaped articles along a transport path. Each of the pellet-shaped articles includes a first side and a second side. The conveyer has a plurality of article receiving recesses (125) configured to convey the pellet-shaped articles such that either the first side or the second side of the pellet-shaped articles is randomly exposed in the recesses. A first process (laser etching, printing and/or drilling) is performed only on the pellet-shaped articles having the first side exposed. The pellet-shaped articles are manipulated such that the exposed side of all of the pellet-shaped articles is reversed. A second process is performed only on the pellet-shaped articles with the second side exposed.

  • Publication number: 20070054695
Abstract: A method of and system for enabling a distributed entertainment system over a computing device is described herein. When implementing a distributed entertainment system wherein the entertainment system is directly correlated to live events or televised programs, there are a number of issues that must be addressed such as differing timing and channels of television programs and separate state laws. Furthermore, there are a plethora of varying computing device models possibly requiring model-specific software. An “Activity Client” is provided to handle such concerns. Furthermore, since time is of the essence for activities based on live or televised events, it is necessary to ensure a computing device is able to receive the necessary updates for the program before the event begins. By providing only the needed components instead of entire data packages, the present invention is able to much more efficiently prepare users' computing devices in time.

  • Publication number: 20060282175
Abstract: Evacuation devices for evacuating the socket of a prosthetic limb, and prosthetic limb systems employing such vacuum devices. The evacuation devices each preferably include at least an electrically powered vacuum pump and a power source. Such evacuation devices can be attached at various locations on or in a prosthetic limb. Because the electrically powered pump does not require manual manipulation to create vacuum, it is substantially easier to use than a manual pump. Due to the small size and small power source required by such an electrically powered pump, an evacuation device may be readily incorporated into a prosthesis.

  • Publication number: 20060081458
Abstract: A method of sputtering with sputtering apparatus is for depositing a layer upon a substrate. The apparatus includes a sputter target with a face exposed to the substrate and a magnetron providing a magnetic field that moves relative to the target face. The speed of movement of the field is controlled such that the uniformity of the deposition on the substrate is enhanced. A particular method includes monitoring uniformity verses speed, selecting the speed that gives the preferred uniformity and controlling the field to the selected speed. The selected speed may vary over the life of the target, with increased speeds becoming desirable as the target thins.

  • Publication number: 20050066178
Abstract: The present invention discloses an apparatus and a method for forming a protective layer around computer memory that allows access to specified external locations and applications only. A routine seeking access to the computer memory must be cleared for access by at least two different permission checking algorithms that work in conjunction to a database to determine whether access should be allowed. The invention protects the hard drive from unauthorized reading and writing by verifying permission definitions from a hard drive database and monitors startup files for changes from previous versions to prevent unauthorized control of the computer recourses at the outset of its operation upon power up. Additionally, the present invention will protect from unauthorized TCP/IP connections by verifying permissions from a TCP/IP permissions database.

  • Patent number: 6679978
Abstract: A photocatalytically-assisted self-cleaning (“PASC”) coating on a substrate enables the substrate to shed dirt simply by rinsing with water. A method of making a PASC coating includes depositing by chemical vapor deposition an alkali metal diffusion barrier layer on a substrate; sputtering an ultraviolet radiation activated layer on the alkali metal diffusion barrier layer at a temperature of 100° C. or less; and, without heating above 100° C., exposing the ultraviolet radiation activated layer to ultraviolet radiation to form the self-cleaning substrate. The sputter deposition of the ultraviolet radiation activated layer on the chemical vapor deposited alkali metal diffusion barrier layer allows the ultraviolet radiation activated layer to be activated upon exposure to UV radiation without first having been heated during and/or after deposition.

  • Patent number: 6434486
Abstract: An object sensing system is capable of masking certain detected objects such that the system does not provide an alarm. Initially, a projected path of the vehicle is determined by using a current steering angle of the vehicle. Next, a desired warning distance is determined based upon the current steering angle. Then, a current distance to a sensed object, as derived from an object sensor, is determined. Finally, an alarm is provided only if the sensed object is within the desired warning distance.
