Patent number: 11473304Abstract: A laminated composition shingle includes a first sheet having a first mineral granule surface and a first rectangular shape without tab cut-outs laminated with a second sheet having a second mineral granule surface. The second sheet has tab cut-outs along only one longer edge of the second sheet. The laminated composition shingle has a shingle width and an exposure width perpendicular to the long edges and a first width that is twice the exposure width. The shingle width is the first width plus 2 inches (51 mm). The tab cut-outs have a tab width in the direction of the shingle width less than the exposure width minus ? of an inch (3 mm).Type: GrantFiled: November 30, 2018Date of Patent: October 18, 2022Assignee: Freiborg Enterprises, Inc.Inventor: Mark Freiborg

Patent number: 10180003Abstract: A laminated roofing shingle includes a base layer attached to an overlay layer. The overlay layer provides tabs extending from a long edge. The tabs have a width that is exposed when the shingle is installed. The exposed surface of the base layer is covered by mineral granules from a first color group for a first distance from the long edge. The remainder of the exposed surface of the base layer is covered by mineral granules from a second color group. The exposed surface of the overlay layer is covered by mineral granules from a third color group for the first distance from the long edge. The remainder of the exposed surface of the overlay layer is covered by mineral granules from the second color group. The mineral granules may be applied to a continuous sheet in color lanes from which the base and overlay sheets may be cut.Type: GrantFiled: June 19, 2017Date of Patent: January 15, 2019Inventor: Mark Freiborg

Patent number: 10180002Abstract: A laminated composition shingle includes a first sheet having a first mineral granule surface and a first rectangular shape without tab cut-outs laminated with a second sheet having a second mineral granule surface. The second sheet has tab cut-outs along only one of the longer edges of the second sheet. An exposed portion of the laminated composition shingle that remains uncovered when the laminated composition shingle forms a roof covering has a width that is between 40% and 45% of an overall width of the laminated composition shingle. A width of the tab cut-outs is between 90% and 97% of the width of the exposed portion of the laminated composition shingle. All the tab cut-outs may have the same width. There may be visible marking on the shingle to indicate placement of the next course of shingles.Type: GrantFiled: June 19, 2017Date of Patent: January 15, 2019Inventor: Mark Freiborg

Patent number: 10174504Abstract: A laminated composition shingle includes a first sheet having a first mineral granule surface and a first rectangular shape without tab cut-outs laminated with a second sheet having a second mineral granule surface. The second sheet has tab cut-outs along only one longer edge of the second sheet. The laminated composition shingle has a shingle width perpendicular to the long edges, The tab cut-outs have a tab width in the direction of the shingle width where two times the tab width is less than the shingle width minus two and one quarter inches (57 mm). Two times the tab width may be more than the shingle width minus four inches (102 mm). If the shingle width is at least 12? (305 mm), the tab cut-outs may have a tab width that is between 33% and 41.5% of the shingle width. All the tab cut-outs may have the same width.Type: GrantFiled: March 19, 2018Date of Patent: January 8, 2019Inventor: Mark Freiborg

Patent number: 6725609Abstract: Asphalt composition ridge cover formed from an approximately rectangular sheet of asphalt composition roofing material. The sheet of asphalt composition material is bent around a radius through approximately a ninety degree angle along the centerline so that no more than minimal bending of the ridge cover is required during later installation.Type: GrantFiled: August 16, 2001Date of Patent: April 27, 2004Assignee: The Dorothy and Ben Freiborg 1980 Trust, by said Ben FreiborgInventors: Mark Freiborg, Bennie Freiborg

Patent number: 6351913Abstract: An asphalt composition ridge cover and method of forming the same whereby a decorative appearance somewhat resembling that of a shake roof ridge cover is achieved. The ridge cover generally is a pair of flat, approximately rectangular pieces of asphalt composition roofing material, having a plurality of tabs at one end of each piece which are folded over one another thereby forming a region of increased thickness at that end. The two pieces are adhesively joined in a plurality of areas including an area disposed to both sides of the central fold that forms the ridge line of ridge cover when installed, thereby holding the ridge cover in a folded configuration. The adhesive may contain a solid filler to increase the thickness of the ridge cover. The adhesive joining in the vicinity of the central folding inhibits further bending along the central fold and thereby reduces cracking.Type: GrantFiled: November 3, 1999Date of Patent: March 5, 2002Assignee: The Dorothy and Ben Freiborg 1980 TrustInventors: Mark Freiborg, Bennie Freborg

Patent number: 6125602Abstract: An asphalt composition ridge cover providing a three dimensional character to a roof. The ridge covers are manufactured and packaged in an approximately 90 degree "V" shape so as to require very little bending during installation. Adhesive holds the angle formed during manufacture. The ridge cover may have a thickening member or members thereunder giving the ridge covers a tapered thickness which, when installed, gives the resulting roof a pronounced three dimensional appearance.Type: GrantFiled: May 20, 1998Date of Patent: October 3, 2000Assignee: The Dorothy and Ben Freiborg 1980 TrustInventors: Mark Freiborg, Ben Freiborg
