  • Publication number: 20060048972
Abstract: An apparatus for use in a wellbore. The apparatus includes a body and a blade assembly. The blade assembly is movable between a collapsed position whereby the expandable apparatus has a smaller outer diameter and an expanded position whereby the expandable apparatus has a larger outer diameter. The apparatus further includes a pressure activated member for selectively allowing the blade assembly to move from the closed position to the open position. A method for using the apparatus, wherein a drill string with an expandable bit at the end thereof is lowered into the wellbore. Thereafter, the pressure activated member is activated to allow the cutting members to move from the collapsed position to the expanded position. Subsequently, the expandable bit is rotated to form a portion of the wellbore. Next, the expandable bit is deactivated and the cutting members are moved from the expanded position to the collapsed position.

  • Publication number: 20050179289
Abstract: A child safety seat comprises a seat body having opposed side wall portions, a retention harness comprising opposed harness side portions, and a retention member carried on each side wall portion to connect and hold the latch of each harness side portion in a laterally spaced position from the other latch of the other harness side portion, which position is typically elevated relative to their position of use. This facilitates the placement of a child into the safety seat prior to latching the retention harness latches together.

  • Publication number: 20050092527
Abstract: Apparatus and methods are provided for reducing drilling vibration during drilling with casing. In one embodiment, an apparatus for reducing vibration of a rotating casing includes a tubular body disposed concentrically around the casing, wherein tubular body is movable relative to the casing. Preferably, a portion of the tubular body comprises a friction reducing material. In operation, the tubular body comes into contact with the existing casing or the wellbore instead of the rotating casing. Because the tubular body is freely movable relative to the rotating casing, the rotating casing may continuously rotate even though the tubular body is frictionally in contact with the existing casing.

  • Patent number: 5796986
Abstract: An integrated manufacture and design system and a database translator that allows use of a subset of data directly from a CAD database to provide the necessary control data for use in a CAM assembly system. A database translator according to the present invention can examine the CAD data specifying a product, determine which of the component parts of that product are unknown to the CAM assembly system, and can insert into the CAM assembly system's database whatever new information the CAM system requires to manufacture the product. The invention may be embodied as a number of software modules on a fixed medium such as a computer readable disk or computer memory.

  • Patent number: 5603454
Abstract: A balloon valve that can control the flow of a display fluid through the supply pipe of a water display. The supply pipe is typically suspended from a structure and releases a slug of water into a pool. The pipe is located at a distance from the pool so that the water slug breaks up into a rain shower. The balloon valve includes an inflatable hose located within the supply pipe and coupled to a source of pressurized working fluid. The flow of working fluid into the balloon valve is controlled by a control valve. When the control valve is in a first state, working fluid flows into the balloon valve to expand the hose. The hose is expanded to completely fill a portion of the pipe and prevent the display fluid from flowing through the pipe. When the control valve is in a second state, the balloon valve is deflated so that the display fluid can again flow through the supply pipe and out of the display.

  • Patent number: 5363577
Abstract: A liquid display that has a plurality of adjacent parallel tubes filled with a fluid and connected to a source of air that introduces bubbles into the tubes, so that the combination of bubbles form a word, or another recognizable graphic display. Each tube has a valve connected to the air supply, that controls the duration and flowrate of air injected into the tube so that a single bubble is formed within the tube. The valves are connected to a computer that opens and closes each valve to produce a pattern of bubbles in accordance with a computer program within the computer. The program creates a combination of bubbles that together depict a legible design or display.

  • Patent number: 5340024
Abstract: A water device that can display predetermined patterns that form letters, numbers, pictures or other visually apparent figures. The water display has a shallow pool of water with a flat bottom surface, that has a plurality of holes spaced apart in a grid like fashion. The holes are connected to a source of air that introduces bubbles into the pool. The air exits the water in such a manner as to leave a visually distinguishable mark or impression in the pool. The bubbles are combined and patterned into an identifiable figure such as a word or a set of numbers. Each hole has a solenoid valve that allows air to flow into the pool when the solenoid is energized. The valves are connected to a computer that selects which holes are to release air and when the bubbles are to be released. The actuation of the valves can be selected and sequenced in accordance with the operating instructions of a computer program, that produce a pattern of bubbles to create the desired form on the surface of the pool.

  • Patent number: 5219315
Abstract: A simulator for water rides, that has a raft which is moved about such that it approximates the movement of a raft floating along a body of water. The simulator has a theater projection system constructed to display visual images onto a screen located inside a simulator room. The visual images typically being scenes of a rapidly flowing river as seen from the front of a raft floating down the body of water. Within the room is a raft constructed to support an audience while they view the visual images. The raft is surrounded by a pool of water that can have valves or actuators incorporated to create waves and water mist to simulate a river. The raft can be moved within the pool, by displacing the water beneath the raft such that the raft moves in conjunction with the scene depicted on the screen. Water displacement may be induced by a wave created in the pool, or by pushing the water under the raft with actuators or a flexible plate located at the bottom of the pool directly under the raft.

  • Patent number: 4889283
Abstract: The present invention provides a means for generating and controllably terminating a laminar flow stream of fluid to give the effect of slicing the output stream perpendicularly to its longitudinal axis. The diverting means of the present invention is formed as a unitary assembly with a laminar output nozzle, and is disposed in a water tight tank coupled to the laminar flow nozzle. For diversion of the laminar flow stream, a continuous flow of water is controllably diverted by an electrically controlled solenoid valve into the path of the laminar flow stream. This diverting stream diverts the direction of the output flow so that it is captured within the tank and merely allowed to drain therefrom. By providing the diverter as an integrated assembly with the laminar flow nozzle, the diverter may be adjusted one time, and thereafter may be disassembled, reassembled, etc., without requiring further adjustment.

  • Patent number: 4817312
Abstract: A sound activated fountain display. A plurality of transducers are disposed on the bottom of the pool of a fountain display with the fountain being normally off. Whenever a coin is tossed into the fountain's pool, the sound waves generated by the coin are received by the transducers, activating the fountain display. By gating the responses of the various transducers, the area of the pool in which the coin was tossed may be identified. In this manner, the display may be caused to be directed to that area of the pool, customizing the display for that particular viewer. If desired, the fountain display may be in a central pool with separate "satellite" coin pools surrounding the fountain and for activating the fountain display.

  • Patent number: 4795092
Abstract: The present invention provides a means for producing a laminar output of fluid which is substantially turbulence free. The present invention utilizes an input tank or enclosure which includes turbulence reducing and flow straightening devices for producing a turbulent free output flow of water. This enclosure uses a tangential input port to introduce water to the enclosures which results in much more uniform and controllable flow profiles of the water through the device. The entire device may be situated entirely beneath the surface of a pool, pond or fountain, with a clear glass or plastic tube extending above the water level to provide a visibly nonintrusive protective path for the laminar output flow.
