Publication number: 20090070338Abstract: In the disclosed example, an Intelligence Management System (IMS) collects data pertaining to operations of resources of various document processing environments operated by different entities into a database. The IMS processes data from the database according to criteria, to generate at least one anonymous performance metric representing operational performance of resources within a number of the document processing environments. The anonymous metric may be presented to a user, such as personnel of one of the operating entities. If the user has sufficient access privileges, the IMS may also generate a similar client specific metric from data for one or more environments with which the user is associated, for example, to allow benchmark comparison of the operational performance of the associated environment(s) against the anonymous performance metric.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 27, 2007Publication date: March 12, 2009Inventors: Roger Spitzig, Michael J. Maselli, Bob Richards, Victor Tolomei, Mark G. Mackelprang, Alexander Murray, Eric Moreau

Publication number: 20080291486Abstract: A data engine collects real-time information associated with the operations of hard copy mail processors. In the example, the data engine also aggregates data relating to one or more phases of electronic document generation, e.g. document composition and/or printstream processing (re-composition). Analysis of the data enables conditions, states or events of one or more of the phases of the mail processing lifecycle to influence the operations and execution of one or more phases in real-time. For example, the data engine can apply processing rules to recommend or dynamically execute action in the document composition or printstream phases, to improve operations in the mail processing facility. Furthermore, the data engine may also provide suggestions for standardizing various steps of mail processing or upgrading of equipment of the mail processing facility, so as to increase overall mail processing effectiveness.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 22, 2007Publication date: November 27, 2008Inventors: Marvin L. Isles, Victor Tolomei, Mark G. Mackelprang, Leondo Rasheed Phifer, Walter S. Conard

Patent number: 6778961Abstract: A method and system for communicating information to a telephony user in response to a request for the information from the telephony user includes a text data source having text documents and a voice application operable with the text data source for retrieving a text document related to the requested information. A text-to-speech (TTS) manager divides the text document into text document segments. TTS engines convert the text document segments into speech segments. Each text document segment is converted into a speech segment by one TTS engine. A buffer reassembles the speech segments in the proper order and then delivers the speech segments to the user. The TTS manager divides the text document as a function of the rate at which speech segments are delivered to the user such that the speech segments are delivered from the TTS engines to the buffer and from the buffer to the user continuously.Type: GrantFiled: May 16, 2001Date of Patent: August 17, 2004Assignee: WConect, LLCInventors: David L. Walker, Mark G. Mackelprang, Andrew J. Sipe, David V. Elsberry

Publication number: 20020001370Abstract: A voice portal platform for communicating content to a telephone user during a telephone call includes a manager for receiving and executing voice application logic of voice applications and for providing a telephone user session having a voice application for the telephone user during the telephone call. A telephony channel provides telephony event signals between the telephone user and the voice application indicative of telephony events. A speech channel provides speech event signals to the voice application and the telephone user in response to speech events from the telephone user and the voice application. A content server provides content event signals by accessing requested content from content sources. The manager maps the voice application logic of the voice application to the telephony channel, the speech channel, and the content server for execution of the voice application logic to generate the event signals during the telephone call.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 5, 2001Publication date: January 3, 2002Inventors: David L. Walker, Mark G. Mackelprang, David V. Elsberry, Robert Selph

Publication number: 20010049602Abstract: A communication system for communicating information to a telephone user in response to a request for the information from the telephone user. The communication system includes a text data source having text documents. A voice application receives a request from the telephone user for information and then retrieves a text document related to the requested information from the text data source. A context detector determines the context of the text document. A text cleaner modifies the text document as a function of a context of the text document. A text-to-speech (TTS) converter converts the modified text document into speech. The TTS converter provides the speech to the telephone user via the voice application in order to satisfy the request for information from the telephone user.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 10, 2001Publication date: December 6, 2001Inventors: David L. Walker, Mark G. Mackelprang, Andrew J. Sipe, Armand C. Sperduti

Publication number: 20010048736Abstract: A communication system for communicating content to a telephone user in response to a request for the content from the telephone user. The system includes a voice application operable for receiving a request from the telephone user for content and for generating a content request indicative of the content requested by the telephone user. A first consent provider is operable for periodically generating pushed content files and a second content provider is operable for generating on-demand content files. In response to receiving a content request from the voice application a content server is operable for providing content handlers having audio versions of pushed and on-demand content files related to the content requested by the telephone user from the content providers to the voice application. The voice application then plays the audio versions of the content files related to the content requested by the telephone user to the telephone user.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 4, 2001Publication date: December 6, 2001Inventors: David L. Walker, Mark G. Mackelprang, Andrew J. Sipe

Patent number: 6266575Abstract: A client/server architecture for database driven insertion and mail piece tracking system, method, and computer program product is disclosed. A database is populated with database driven insertion data comprising instructions for handling mailpiece material. A server manages the database by responding to requests for mail processing instructions from clients and storing mailpiece data received from clients. A scanning device reads key code marked mailpiece material in which the key code corresponds to a database location containing instructions for handling mailpiece material. A client processor receives the key code from the scanning device, and transmits a request to the server for accessing the database location containing the instructions for handling mailpiece material. The server retrieves the instructions for handling mailpiece material, and transmits the instructions to the client.Type: GrantFiled: October 27, 1999Date of Patent: July 24, 2001Assignee: Bell & Howell Mail and Messaging Technologies CompanyInventors: Ralph R.
