Patent number: 9096170Abstract: Example light fixtures include one or more light transmitting illuminated rods that emit a series or array of discrete spots of light. Some example light fixtures disclosed herein include optical features that provide an intriguing, attention-getting affect that can be useful particularly in alerting personnel of certain conditions at a doorway of a truck loading dock. In some examples, the light transmitting rods are mechanically coupled to a housing that contains an LED light source. The mechanical coupling allows the illuminated rods to be readily replaced without disrupting with the operation or wiring of the light source. Some example light fixtures illuminate the cargo bay of a vehicle at the loading dock.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 2009Date of Patent: August 4, 2015Assignee: RITE-HITE HOLDING CORPORATIONInventors: Mark R. Patent number: 8622712Abstract: In the event of a fire, in some examples, a ceiling fan stops its fan blades at a predetermined position so as to avoid obstructing the spray from an overhead sprinkler head. The fan can be stopped by various apparatus including, but not limited to, a spring loaded roller engaging a lobed member to urge the fan to a chosen stop position, an electromechanical brake that grips a rotating member at certain locations, a stationary magnet attracted to one or more iron pads that rotate to certain locations, and a motor controller responsive to a rotational position sensor.Type: GrantFiled: August 11, 2008Date of Patent: January 7, 2014Assignee: Rite-Hite Holding CorporationInventors: Aaron J. Wiegel, Daniel M. Anderson, Donald P. Grant, Jason Dondlinger, Joe Korman, Mark G. Petri, Matthew C. McNeill, Ronald P. Snyder

Patent number: 8453705Abstract: A vertically moving door of a truck loading dock includes a disconnectable horizontal joint that provides the door with a barrier position, wherein an upper section of the door can be separated from a lower section to create a ventilation area between the two. The ventilation area allows fresh outside air to enter the building, while the lower section remains at its lowermost position for safety and security. More specifically, the lower section serves as a barrier that helps prevent someone or something from accidentally falling through the doorway when a truck is not present at the dock. A lightweight, resilient strap can be attached to the lower section of the door to help protect that section from an otherwise damaging impact. A lattice of straps or a mesh can be installed across the ventilation area to help secure the building against theft.Type: GrantFiled: September 16, 2010Date of Patent: June 4, 2013Assignee: Rite-Hite Holding CorporationInventors: Jason D. Miller, Donald P. Grant, Paul J. Maly, Joseph A. Manone, Daniel M. Anderson, Ronald W. Bennett, Mark G. Petri, Ronald P. Snyder

Patent number: 7503089Abstract: A dock leveler for a truck loading dock includes a pivotal deck that is raised by an inflatable actuator. The actuator includes a pliable upper section that when inflated has a generally vertical cylindrical shape that can provide a heavy deck with substantial columnar support. The actuator also includes a relatively rigid base that is sealingly joined to the pliable upper section such that upper section and the rigid base define an inner chamber of air. A blower for inflating the actuator can be installed inside or outside the actuator. In some embodiments, a valve system reverses the airflow so that the blower can forcibly deflate and compress the actuator up against the bottom of the deck so that the area underneath the actuator can be cleaned.Type: GrantFiled: April 5, 2005Date of Patent: March 17, 2009Assignee: Rite-Hite Holding CorporationInventors: Tim Muhl, Andrew Wanie, Norbert Hahn, Mark G. Patent number: 6574832Abstract: A flexible guide for a door includes straps that are mounted in pairs along either side of a doorway. The straps for each pair are generally parallel, facing each other, and spaced apart to create a gap or channel between the two. As the door opens and closes, the straps guide the vertical movement of a door panel that travels within the channel. The straps are pulled in tension between upper and lower anchors to provide the straps with enough stiffness to effectively hold the door panel within the channel under normal operation. In some embodiments, springs are used to maintain the tension in the straps. The straps are also sufficiently pliable and resilient to allow an impact to dislodge the door panel out from within the channel without damage. The upper or lower anchor is moveable between a normally extended position and a yielded position to prevent an impact from breaking the anchor and may further be biased to the normal position.Type: GrantFiled: May 30, 2000Date of Patent: June 10, 2003Assignee: Rite-Hite Holding CorporationInventors: James C. Patent number: 6010297Abstract: Improved vehicle restraints, restraint components and specific improvements to certain existing restraints, including: 1) improvements to the design of the barrier portion or head of the restraining member intended to prevent or eliminate downward forces exerted on the restraining member by a departing ICC bar; and 2) providing a locking member for locking the restraining member of a restraint into a given vertical position for a pull away by the parked vehicle, the lock not impeding normal operation of the restraint, but only being activated during a pull away.Type: GrantFiled: September 3, 1996Date of Patent: January 4, 2000Assignee: Rite-Hite Holding CorporationInventors: Norbert Hahn, Mark G.
