  • Patent number: 7000052
Abstract: A method for communicating data is provided that includes storing one or more physical connectors associated with an input/output card and configuring the input/output card to a selected one of a slave, master, and passive mode. An identification for the input/output card may be provided to an end user, the identification reflecting a selected configuration parameter associated with the input/output card.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 24, 2003
Date of Patent: February 14, 2006
    Assignee: Cisco Technology, Inc.
Inventors: Billy G. Moon, Mark G. Schnell
  • Publication number: 20040228333
Abstract: A method consistent with the present invention enables communicating telephonic data regarding a call over a data network. The method includes the steps of receiving data units from a first data network over redundant communication paths. Next, it is determined whether the received data units have an error. One of the received date units is then selected from one of the redundant communication paths determined not to have an error and the selected data unit is forwarded to a second data network.

    Publication date: November 18, 2004

  • Patent number: 5157656
Abstract: A data transmission method and apparatus provides for transmitting lower data rate information in a higher data transmission rate environment. Information entities to be transmitted are broken into smaller entitles called nyblets. Higher data transmission rates are accomodated by accelerating a clock and clocking nyblets from memory at rate that allows the nyblets to be serially assembled into expected bit length words. Lower data rate information, which in conventional systems was transmitted redundantly to achieve compatibility with higher data rate systems, is now transmitted without duplication as a plurality of nyblets in series until the expected bit length is achieved. The result is that more information can be transmitted over a communication medium, since duplicate or redundant transmission of lower data rate information is avoided.
