  • Publication number: 20230400283
Abstract: A thermal management system for a directed energy weapon includes a closed loop vapor compression system through which a thermal management fluid circulates. The vapor compression system including an expansion valve and an evaporator. The directed energy weapon is arranged in thermal communication with the evaporator. The expansion valve is adjustable to control a flow of the thermal management fluid provided to the evaporator in response to a mode of operation of the directed energy weapon.

  • Publication number: 20230400284
Abstract: A thermal management system for a directed energy weapon includes a first heat exchanger thermally coupled to the directed energy weapon and a second heat exchanger arranged in fluid communication with the first heat exchanger to form a closed loop. The second heat exchanger is thermally coupled to a secondary system and a thermal management fluid circulates within the closed loop. A thermal storage device is arranged in fluid communication with the first heat exchanger and the second heat exchanger. The thermal storage device contains a material and a mode of operation of the directed energy weapon is dependent on a condition of the material in the thermal storage device.

  • Publication number: 20230400263
Abstract: A thermal management system for a directed energy weapon includes a heat transfer assembly thermally coupled to the directed energy weapon. The heat transfer assembly includes a phase change material. The thermal management system further includes a secondary system and a thermal management fluid circulating through a closed loop fluidly coupled to the heat transfer assembly and the secondary system. A mode of operation of the directed energy weapon is dependent on a condition of the phase change material.

  • Publication number: 20230303252
Abstract: An environmental control system of an aircraft includes a ram air input configured to receive ram air from a ram air duct of the aircraft and an electric motor driven compressor system. The system also includes a RAM heat exchanger and an ejector connected to the output of the RAM heat exchanger that is fluidly connected to the output of a compressor in the compressor system and that causes ram air received at the cooling flow input to be drawn through the RAM heat exchanger.

  • Publication number: 20230288102
Abstract: A cooling system for a vehicle includes an inlet configured to receive a medium and a compression device including a shaft, a compressor connected to the shaft and having a compressor outlet, an electric motor connected to the shaft and configured to drive the compressor, and a turbine connected to the shaft and also configured to drive the compressor upon receipt of a compressed medium (to create an expanded medium). The turbine includes a turbine inlet and a turbine outlet. A load heat exchanger is connected to the turbine outlet and receives expanded medium therefrom. The load heat exchanger has a load heat exchanger outlet. At least one cooling heat exchanger has a heated flow inlet connected to the compressor outlet, a heated flow outlet connected to the turbine inlet, and a cooling flow inlet that receives a cooling medium from the load heat exchanger outlet.
