  • Patent number: 9697700
Abstract: A monitoring system includes at least one detector having a housing that carries at least one ambient condition sensor. Control circuits carried by the housing are coupled to the at least one ambient condition sensor. A separate audio input transducer carried by the housing is coupled to the control circuits, wherein the control circuits include signal processing circuits coupled to the separate audio input transducer. The signal processing circuits cancel predetermined audio received from the separate audio input transducer and output a processed speech signal that is coupled to speech recognition circuitry. The speech recognition circuitry recognizes selected speech to implement predetermined functions.

  • Patent number: 9058396
Abstract: In one or more embodiments, a flip ahead input, such as a gesture, provides touch users with an ability to easily navigate various websites. The flip ahead input can be utilized to advance to the next portion of relevant content. In at least some embodiments, the flip ahead input resides in the form of a forward swipe. In one or more embodiments, the flip ahead input is configured to be utilized in association with an aggregated browsing history from multiple users. The aggregated browsing history is analyzed to generate rules that are then downloaded to a client device and used by a suitably-configured web browser to ascertain the next portion of content when a flip ahead input is received.

  • Patent number: 7792511
Abstract: A system and method for communicating between a base and a remote device in a security system. The base receives an audio signal from a telephone network via a panel and then frequency modulates the audio signal at a carrier frequency to generate an FM signal. The remote device receives the FM signal from the base, determines a phase error signal representing the phase error between the received FM signal and an output signal of a voltage controlled oscillator, determines a difference between the carrier frequency and a center frequency of the voltage controlled oscillator, and, if there is a difference, then changes the center frequency of the voltage controlled oscillator to match the carrier frequency of the FM signal.

  • Patent number: 7143408
Abstract: Software installation for hardware devices is disclosed. Software for a device to be connected to a computer is installed on the computer. While the software is being installed, an automatic installation mode for the device may be suppressed. This mode is suppressed after being automatically initiated by the operating system of the computer upon the device being connected to the computer before the software is completely installed. Furthermore, once the software has been installed, the user may be instructed to connect the device to the computer, after which the automatic installation mode for the device may be initiated without rebooting the computer.

  • Publication number: 20040090452
Abstract: A system and method for implementing highly efficient recording on computers. To generate a computer-based sound recording a user merely executes a single button-push/keystroke. For example, the user moves a mouse pointer to a screen icon or graphical user interface button and clicks. Sound will be recorded for the period in which the mouse button is in the “down” position. Thus, sound is recorded from the moment the mouse button is moved to the “down” position to the moment it is returned to the “up” position. The recording is automatically stored in a predetermined location so that the user does not have to specify a storage location.
