  • Patent number: 10391503
Abstract: A system and method for predicting a future wind direction and speed and, based thereon, determining a future wind-driven drift and providing the information to an operator or automatically acting to adapt application parameters to better control the wind-driven drift of a fluid during application of the fluid to land or crops by an agricultural machine. A processor receives machine and meteorological data, uses a model to predict the future wind direction and speed, and accesses a drift distance database to determine and visually depict the future wind-driven drift of the fluid. A sensitive area database stores information about sensitive areas bordering the target area, which may also be displayed, to facilitate controlling the wind-driven drift with regard to the sensitive areas. The mathematical model may be a kernel filter, an autoregressive model, an autoregressive integrated moving average model, or a hybrid model which incorporates features of different models.

  • Patent number: 10112711
Abstract: An aircraft system incorporates a first aircraft having a grappling device including a first gripper with a first actuator and a second gripper with a second actuator. The first gripper and the second gripper are movable between an open and a closed position to engage a hooking device and pivot together to change a capture angle. A first controller receives a command and operates the actuators in response to open and close the first and second grippers of the grappling device. The controller also receives a second command and operates the first and second actuators to pivot the grippers and provide grappling at a range of capture angles. A second aircraft, which may be a UAV, incorporates the hooking device. The hooking device includes a ring rotatable from the surface and a third actuator to rotate the ring between a stowed and an extended position.

  • Publication number: 20170236270
Abstract: A parts inspection system for automated video inspection for quality control processes. The inspection system is particularly adapted for rotationally symmetrical workpieces including small arms ammunition cartridges. The system provides a first array of light sources oriented radially around the workpiece path presenting zones of illumination on the workpiece at discrete radial positions. A second illuminator is in the form of linear arrays of light emitting elements oriented along linear arrays. A camera oriented to observe images of light provided by the first and second arrays records video images of the workpieces for use in resolving criteria of acceptable and unacceptable parts. An escapement mechanism moves acceptable and rejected parts into different parts streams.

  • Patent number: 8271000
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a method for repeat paging in a wireless communication system. In accordance with the method, a RAN controller will send a repeat-paging directive to a plurality of BTSs to cause each BTS to begin broadcast of a series of page messages destined to a target mobile station. While transmitting the series, one of the BTSs will then receive from the mobile station a page response, and the BTS will responsively provide to the RAN controller a notification of the page response. In response to receipt of the notification, the RAN controller will then send a paging-stop directive to at least each other BTS of the plurality, and each BTS that receives the paging-stop directive will responsively discontinue broadcasting the series of page messages before completing broadcast of the entire series of page messages, thereby helping to conserve air interface resources.

  • Publication number: 20110214726
Abstract: Photoconversion devices comprising a semiconductor region of nanostructured crystalline material are disclosed. The nanostructures of a crystalline material provide for the generation of multiple excitons per photon absorbed by the crystalline nanostructure in response to incident solar radiation. The photoconversion devices will also include one or more optical elements providing for the concentration of sunlight in the semiconductor region. Also disclosed are photoconversion methods, systems and apparatus featuring the combination solar concentration with nanostructures of a crystalline material providing for the generation of multiple excitons per photon absorbed by the crystalline nanostructure in response to incident solar radiation.

  • Publication number: 20110181837
Abstract: This invention concerns a method of producing a Pepper's Ghost. The method may comprise projecting an image of a subject onto a reflective and transparent screen (7) to create a virtual image (15) of the subject alongside an object (21). The subject of the virtual image may have a colour temperature and the method may comprise illuminating the object (21) with light having a colour and intensity that results in a colour temperature of the object (21) at least approximately matching the colour temperature of the subject of the virtual image. The method may comprise altering the intensity of light that falls on the object (21) by moving the lighting arrangement towards or away from the object (21) whilst maintaining an intensity of light omitted by the lighting arrangement constant.

  • Publication number: 20060252242
Abstract: A GaAlInP compound semiconductor and a method of producing a GaAlInP compound semiconductor are provided. The apparatus and method comprises a GaAs crystal substrate in a metal organic vapor deposition reactor. Al, Ga, In vapors are prepared by thermally decomposing organometallic compounds. P vapors are prepared by thermally decomposing phospine gas, group II vapors are prepared by thermally decomposing an organometallic group IIA or IIB compound. Group VIB vapors are prepared by thermally decomposing a gaseous compound of group VIB. The Al, Ga, In, P, group II, and group VIB vapors grow a GaAlInP crystal doped with group IIA or IIB and group VIB elements on the substrate wherein the group IIA or IIB and a group VIB vapors produced a codoped GaAlInP compound semiconductor with a group IIA or IIB element serving as a p-type dopant having low group II atomic diffusion.

  • Patent number: 5007655
Abstract: Disclosed is a wheelchair having a pair of levers along its opposite sides connected with sprockets on drive wheels. In one form, each lever is connected to its sprocket by a rack. The drive wheels have a clutch enabling the power stroke of the lever to drive the wheels through the rack-and-pinion engagement, yet permitting the sprocket to rotate in the reverse direction freely upon the return stroke of the lever. The rack includes an arcuate extent void of teeth to enable disengagement of the drive connection between the lever and sprocket whereby the wheels may move freely in either direction. In another form, a chain interconnects the lever and a return spring connected to the wheelchair frame. The chain has an extent void of pins to enable disengagement of the drive connection between the lever and sprocket, whereby the sprocket and, hence, drive wheel are free to rotate in either direction. A speed change mechanism is employed to vary the torque applied to the sprocket by the lever.
