Publication number: 20220252122Abstract: A biasing system for an actuator. The system includes a lock sleeve, a lock shaft, a tine having a tine finger extending along a longitudinal axis, a biasing member and a biasing spring. The biasing member and biasing spring are configured to maintain a position of the tine finger away from the longitudinal axis in the direction of the lock sleeve when the lock shaft and the lock sleeve are deployed, in use, such that, when the lock sleeve is returned, the tine finger is biased against the lock sleeve to prevent the lock sleeve from returning to a locked position before the lock shaft.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 27, 2022Publication date: August 11, 2022Inventors: Michael SOMERFIELD, Mark HUBBERSTEY

Patent number: 9989099Abstract: A splined coupling comprises a radially inner shaft and a radially outer shaft having a cavity for receiving the inner shaft. First splines are provided on a radially outwardly facing surface of the inner shaft. Second splines are provided on a radially inwardly facing surface of the cavity of the outer shaft. The first splines are slidably engaged with the second splines. At least one biasing element, for example a diaphragm is arranged to act between the radially inner and radially outer shafts for locating the first splines in a desired axial position relative to the second splines and to provide a biasing force resisting the axial movement of the first splines relative to the second splines upon relative axial movement of the inner and outer shafts.Type: GrantFiled: March 22, 2017Date of Patent: June 5, 2018Assignee: GOODRICH ACTUATION SYSTEMS LIMITEDInventors: Stephen Davies, Mark Hubberstey, David Holman

Patent number: 9970387Abstract: The exit area of a nozzle assembly is varied by translating a ring assembly located at a rear of the engine nacelle. The ring may be axially translatable along the axis of the engine. As the ring translates, the trailing edge of the ring defines a variable nozzle exit area. Translation of the ring creates an upstream exit at a leading edge of the ring assembly. The upstream exit can be used to bleed or otherwise spill flow excess from the engine bypass duct. As the engine operates in various flight conditions, the ring can be translated to obtain lower fan pressure ratios and thereby increase the efficiency of the engine. Fairings partially enclose actuator components for reduced drag.Type: GrantFiled: August 7, 2008Date of Patent: May 15, 2018Assignees: ROHR, INC., GOODRICH ACTUATION SYSTEMTS LIMITEDInventors: Joel Hudson Frank, Norman John James, Shunshen Richard Wang, Bryant Lynoel McKleny, David A. Baer, Tony Jones, John H. Harvey, Peter W. Bacon, Mark Hubberstey, Brett J. Wharton, Neil C. Davies, Stephen Michael Roberts, Steven Andrew Wylie
