  • Publication number: 20130175467
Abstract: The use of a side stream and residue from the lignocellulose to ethanol process for use in preventing the formation of ice and in melting ice and snow on roadways. The future lignocellulose to ethanol industry will provide a significant proportion of these streams that provide an organic solution that when added to chloride salts of calcium, magnesium and sodium provides an improved environmentally friendly road deicing product with reduced corrosiveness and increased friction. A deicer composition of calcium chloride aqueous solution containing 25-38% by weight calcium chloride mixed up to 50% by volume of hemicellulose hydrolysis side stream can reduce the corrosivity of calcium chloride to 70% less that of a sodium chloride solution.

  • Patent number: 8471520
Abstract: A power delivery rate from a renewable power source to a load is managed by determining, by processing circuitry, a change in a power generation rate, determining, by the processing circuitry, whether the change in the power generation rate exceeds a limit, and then, adjusting, by control circuitry, a power transfer rate to or from a power storage device, such that the adjusting is sufficient to prevent the power delivery rate from exceeding the limit.

  • Publication number: 20130065208
Abstract: In some embodiments, a non-transitory processor-readable medium stores code representing instructions to cause a processor to receive a first psychological profile identifying one or more psychological facets associated with a candidate for a role and a set of second psychological profiles identifying one or more psychological facets associated with the role. Each second psychological profile is associated with an assessment of the role by an evaluator from a set of evaluators. The code represents instructions to cause the processor to receive a set of post-interview assessments, each of which is from an interviewer from a set of interviewers and includes a degree of confidence that the candidate possesses the one or more psychological facets associated with the candidate. The code further represents instructions to cause the processor to compute an indicator associated with the first psychological profile, the set of second psychological profiles and the set of post-interview assessments.

  • Publication number: 20110229949
Abstract: A polyploid transformed yeast cell comprising a deleted or disrupted GDH1 gene encoding an NADPH-dependent glutamate dehydrogenase. The polyploid yeast cell shows increased production of ethanol and reduced production of glycerol when compared with a control polyploid yeast cell.

  • Publication number: 20110100590
Abstract: A geosolar temperature control building construction system wherein a concrete wall defines a temperature delivery system, comprising the concrete wall having insulation on at least an outer surface, the concrete wall structure positioned at a first elevation in the earth, the first elevation being below a frost line for a region where the building construction is located, a passive thermal transfer system comprising an inwardly facing surface of the concrete wall having insulation removed at the first elevation to expose the concrete wall to thermal conditions at the first elevation and thermally couple the building to the earth, the concrete wall defining an exterior wall of the building construction generally near a floor slab, the floor slab positioned at a second elevation of the concrete wall above the first elevation, an active thermal transfer system comprising a closed loop piping system having a plurality of a horizontally extending pipes disposed beneath the floor slab, the plurality of horizontall

  • Patent number: 4183159
Abstract: A portable transparent display device consists of two elements, viz. (1) a flexible transparent generally flat receiving element (e.g. disk-shaped), one face of which is recessed to form a receiving space, the side walls of the receiving element defining the receiving space slanting inwardly and upwardly from the bottom thereof; and (2) an insertable element, mating with and insertable into the aforesaid receiving space and removably locked into position by the inclined side walls defining the periphery of the receiving space of the receiving element. A thin paper insert or the like bearing a message or photograph, etc. may be clamped between the receiving element and the insertable element and the device used for display of the message or photograph, etc. through the transparent receiving element. The insertable element may be provided with a clasp at the rear surface for attaching the device to the clothing of the wearer.
