  • Patent number: 4184575
Abstract: A power transfer mechanism incorporated in a multiple path drive system comprises a transfer case disposed between a source of input torque and a pair of drive axles. Torque is transferred directly to the fixed axle and is transferred automatically to the steering axle through a double-acting overrunning clutch when required. The clutch is biased toward one engaged position and is prevented from locking inadvertently in the other engaged position by a cam operated blocking device. The device also assists in biasing the clutch.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 27, 1977
Date of Patent: January 22, 1980
    Assignee: Borg-Warner Corporation
    Inventor: Mark J. Fogelberg
  • Patent number: 4145163
Abstract: A controlled, variable displacement wobble plate compressor is provided with means for controlling the capacity by sliding the wobble plate to and fro along the drive shaft axis to vary the effective pumping capacity. The position of the wobble plate along the drive shaft axis is a function of the pressure maintained inside the crankcase, said position being a result of the various forces acting on the pistons, including the underside of the pistons where crankcase pressure is applied.

  • Patent number: 4124085
Abstract: A power transfer mechanism incorporated in a multiple path drive system comprises a transfer case disposed between a source of input torque and a pair of drive axles. Torque is transferred directly to the fixed axle and is transferred automatically to the steering axle through a double-acting overrunning clutch when required. The clutch is biased to advance toward one engaged position, but is prevented from locking by a direction-sensitive latch so long as a normal overrunning condition is present.

  • Patent number: 3993152
Abstract: A power transfer mechanism incorporated in a multiple path drive system comprises a transfer case disposed between a source of input torque and a pair of drive axles. Torque is transferred directly to one drive axle and is transferred automatically to the other drive axle through a double-acting roller clutch when required. The transfer case is constructed such that it may be assembled in two configurations; one in which the output shafts are coaxial and offset from the input shaft, and the other in which the input shaft and one output shaft are coaxial, the other output shaft being offset therefrom.

  • Patent number: 3981146
Abstract: A variable ratio master cylinder designed to operate, in one phase, to take up slack in a braking system by displacing a relatively large volume of fluid at a low pressure with minimum pedal travel and then gradually shift to another phase in which a smaller volume of fluid is displaced at a higher pressure with increased pedal travel to apply the brakes. The master cylinder includes a differential area metering valve which begins to open at a predetermined pressure in the pressure chamber and remains open above a predetermined second pressure and sealing means cooperative with at least one piston to seal off communication between the pressure chamber and the rear of the piston during the pressure stroke of the piston but to allow communication between said chambers on the return stroke of the piston for rapid return to the released state.

  • Patent number: 3968704
Abstract: A power transfer mechanism incorporated in a multiple path drive system includes a transfer case disposed between a source of input torque and at least one drive axle. The transfer case has a pair of parallel drive trains including a gear drive train and a chain drive train, and means for selectively engaging one of the drive trains as desired to provide power transfer. A sprocket in the chain drive train serves as one of the gears in the gear drive train.
