  • Publication number: 20250211049
Abstract: A rotor for a rotating electrical machine, is disclosed, the rotor comprising a plurality of salient poles (14), rotor windings (16) on the salient poles, and a wedge (40; 60) for retaining the rotor windings of two adjacent poles, the wedge extending partway through the windings in an axial direction. The wedge comprises two legs (42, 44; 62, 64) arranged at an angle to each other. The wedge is configured to be slid axially in the rotor during assembly. This may maximize the space available for axial air flow between adjacent salient poles, while allowing the wedge to have sufficient strength to retain the windings, particularly in machines where higher forces may be developed.

  • Patent number: 11588376
Abstract: An adaptor is disclosed for connecting a rotating electrical machine 12 to a prime mover 10. The adaptor comprises at least one air outlet. The adaptor is arranged to provide an increase in a cross-sectional area of air flow towards the outlet. In this way part of the dynamic pressure can be converted into additional static pressure rise through steady expansion of the air flow cross-section. This in turn may help to improve the overall amount of cooling air passing through the machine for a given fan input power.

  • Patent number: 7923643
Abstract: A separator is disclosed which provides an electrically insulating layer between groups of windings in an electrical apparatus, such as a rotating electrical machine. The separator comprises a matrix of interconnected rods. This can allow air gaps to be present between groups of windings, which may improve the cooling efficiency of the apparatus.
