Abstract: A method of determining a route is provided. The route is defined between a start point and an end point on a map defined by a plurality of links for representing roads and a plurality of nodes for representing junctions between roads. The links meet at respective nodes and comprise a plurality of features comprising distance and/or time and a further feature. The method comprises: defining a cost parameter for representing the relative weighting of each of the plurality of features. Each of the links is associated with a respective cost value representing the evaluation of the cost parameter over that link. The method then comprises: finding a route from the start point to the end point via links and nodes that minimises the summed cost values over the route.

Abstract: The present invention is directed towards a navigation device (12) for receiving navigation data from a portable computing device (11). The navigation device (12) comprises a display (21) and at least one sensor (22, 23, 24) configured to determine a reference direction, the reference direction being a direction relative to the display (21). The navigation device (12) further comprises wireless communication means (25) for wirelessly receiving data relating to a desired bearing from a portable computing device (11) and a processing unit connected to the display (21), the at least one sensor (22, 23, 24) and the wireless communication means (25).
