Patent number: 9515875Abstract: An example method for zero touch deployment of multi-tenant services in a home network environment is provided and includes receiving router configuration information of a home router located in a home network, the router configuration information including at least one slice setting for a service deployment at the home router, and configuring the slice setting on the home router for the service from a remote network separate from the home network. The slice setting can logically divide the home router to enable separation of the service from other services provisioned and configured on the home router. In specific embodiments, the method further includes receiving a request for the service from a service user entity, sending a slice provisioning request to a router manager for provisioning the service in the home router, and receiving a slice provisioned response comprising the router configuration information from the router manager.Type: GrantFiled: March 14, 2014Date of Patent: December 6, 2016Assignee: CISCO TECHNOLOGY, INC.Inventors: Mark John Baugher, Plamen Nedeltchev, Luka Perkov, Tara K. Patent number: 8024466Abstract: Methods and systems of providing security backup services to a home network are described. In one embodiment, the gateway for a home network is registered with a service provider. A network device is enrolled with the home network, and periodically reenrolls. The device detects whether the gateway has been replaced between enrolling and reenrolling, and if it has been replaced, determines whether the new network gateway has been endorsed by the service provider.Type: GrantFiled: May 4, 2010Date of Patent: September 20, 2011Assignee: Cisco Technology, Inc.Inventor: Mark John Baugher

Patent number: 7533258Abstract: Methods and devices for controlling access to a service over a network are described. A credential is provided to a device. The credential indicates the device is enrolled in the network. The credential is stored in non-volatile memory on the device. The credential binds the device to the network and prevents the device from accessing another network. The device presents the credential to a provider, and the provider uses the credential to authenticate and authorize the device. Upon authorization, the device is provided access to the service.Type: GrantFiled: January 7, 2005Date of Patent: May 12, 2009Assignee: Cisco Technology, Inc.Inventor: Mark John Baugher

Patent number: 7500269Abstract: Methods and devices allowing distribution of content that resides in a source device on a local area network (LAN) are described. A gateway between the LAN and a wide area network (WAN) receives from a sink device a request for an instance of content. The request is sent over the WAN. Distribution of the item of content within the LAN uses a first digital rights management (DRM) protocol that prevents the item of content from being distributed outside the LAN. For the item of content, the gateway converts from the first DRM protocol to a second DRM protocol that can be used for transmitting content over the WAN. The item of content can then be forwarded to the sink device according to the second DRM protocol.Type: GrantFiled: March 7, 2005Date of Patent: March 3, 2009Assignee: Cisco Technology, Inc.Inventors: Allen J. Huotari, Mark John Baugher

Patent number: 7340769Abstract: Methods and devices controlling access to content are described. For example, a request to enroll a device is received at a localization hub. The localization hub is associated with a subscriber that is authorized to access the content. A credential is issued to the device. The credential demonstrates that the device is enrolled in the local area network and is authorized to receive the content.Type: GrantFiled: October 26, 2005Date of Patent: March 4, 2008Assignee: Cisco Technology, Inc.Inventor: Mark John Baugher

Patent number: 5819043Abstract: A system, method and program for adjusting a resource reservation for multimedia and normal traffic. An initialization file is used for storing data concerning a resource including a current maximum resource reservation for multimedia traffic. The user is presented the current maximum resource reservation, preferably in a graphical user interface to allow the user to adjust the resource reservation to a new maximum resource reservation in the initialization file. One preferred graphical user interface presents a range of resource reservations is represented as a scale and the current maximum resource reservation as a point on the scale. The resource reservation is used by the operating system or other software for reserving a portion of the resource. The remainder of the resource is allocated to normal traffic.Type: GrantFiled: November 12, 1996Date of Patent: October 6, 1998Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Mark John Baugher, Alan Palmer Stephens

Patent number: 5713043Abstract: A method and system for the efficient determination of quality of service parameters for multimedia files accessed during operation of a specified multimedia application. Operation of the specified multimedia application is initiated. During operation, the multimedia application accesses multimedia files by reading the data stored in those files. The multimedia files are identified, and each read performed by the multimedia application is analyzed while each multimedia file is accessed. Quality of service parameters for each multimedia file may be automatically determined utilizing the analysis of each read of a multimedia file performed by the multimedia application.Type: GrantFiled: January 4, 1995Date of Patent: January 27, 1998Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Mark John Baugher, Alan Palmer Stephens

Patent number: 5701465Abstract: A method for providing files to a remote node including the steps of determining whether bandwidth is available for transmitting across a communications link a file requested by a remote node, reserving bandwidth for the requested file if bandwidth is determined to be available, and opening the requested file for transmission only if bandwidth is reserved. In addition, an apparatus for providing files to a remote node including apparatus for determining whether bandwidth is available for transmitting across a communications link a file requested by a remote node, apparatus for reserving bandwidth for the requested file if bandwidth is determined to be available, and apparatus for opening the requested file for transmission only if bandwidth is reserved.Type: GrantFiled: July 1, 1996Date of Patent: December 23, 1997Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Mark John Baugher, Philip Yen-Tang Chang, Gregory Lynn Morris, Alan Palmer Stephens

Patent number: 5694548Abstract: A system and method ensure transmission of data elements between computers at a preselected quality of service. A computer in a layered reference model communication network requests a preselected quality of service for selected transmissions. An existing session is employed whereby transmissions having a variety of preselected quality of service guarantees are multiplexed onto the existing session. Data elements having the preselected qualities of service are transferred from service channels of another such layer. One, a system and method are provided for use between layer N+1 and layer N, wherein elements from two or more service channels from N+1 are transferred to one or more service channels in layer N such that a preselected quality of service is provided for the elements being transferred.Type: GrantFiled: June 29, 1993Date of Patent: December 2, 1997Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Mark John Baugher, Isabel Berdeen Van Horn

Patent number: 5644715Abstract: A multimedia computer system for scheduling and coordinating distributed multimedia resources is disclosed. The scheduling and coordinating are accomplished by the operation of an algorithm in the memory of a number of networked computers. The processor, under the control of the algorithm, creates, accesses, modifies and stores a plurality of data structures in a file on a non-volatile store such as a disk. The data structures store user inputs defining the parameters associated with multimedia sessions and the scheduling information necessary to support the requirements of the sessions with a specific Quality Of Service (QOS). This information is stored on each of the computers participating in the electronic meeting for subsequent use in scheduling and implementing the sessions via an Open System Interconnect (OSI) network for example.Type: GrantFiled: December 9, 1994Date of Patent: July 1, 1997Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventor: Mark John Baugher
