Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer program products are provided for spell checking URLs in a resource. Embodiments include identifying within a resource a URL, determining whether the URL is valid, and marking the URL as misspelled if the URL is invalid. In typical embodiments, determining whether the URL is valid is carried out by resolving a domain name contained in the URL. Typical embodiments also include suggesting an alternative spelling for the URL. In some embodiments, suggesting an alternative spelling for the URL is carried out by identifying a keyword in the resource, querying a search engine with the identified keyword, and selecting a URL in dependence upon search results returned by the search engine.

Abstract: Authorized priority alerts are permitted to “pop up” on top of a running screensaver in a computer display without suspending operation of the screensaver. A windows manager monitors for priority alerts from applications. If the screensaver is active in the display, the windows manager determines if the alert issuing application and alert type are permitted to breakthrough the screensaver. If so, an alert notification window identifying the content of the alert is generated and displayed in z-order on top of the screensaver, without interrupting the operation of the screensaver displayed underneath. Some notification windows implement security features by displaying only a portion of the content of the corresponding alert or completely obscuring the content of the alert and only notifying of the presence of the alert. An additional security feature requires the user to enter a password in the notification window before the content or type of alert is displayed.

Abstract: A system for adjusting scanned images for printing. In response to scanning one or more objects, one or more bounding boxes are calculated for the scanned image. The scanned image is cropped to a size of the one or more bounding boxes. The cropped image is rotated to align with a scanner bed and other cropped images if necessary. The cropped image is centered. It is determined if more scanned image data can fit within a selected page size. In response to determining that more scanned image data can fit within the selected page size, it is determined if more objects need to be scanned in a print job. In response to determining that more objects do not need to be scanned in the print job, a print layout is determined for the print job. Then, the print job is printed on the selected page size.

Abstract: A technique for storing or backing up data to a removable media such as a CD or DVD with an enhanced probability that such data can be successfully read or recovered from such media subsequent to the writing/storing/backing-up of the data. This enhanced probability is achieved by storing the data to be copied to the media in multiple different physical locations of the media, such that a plurality of duplicate copies of the data exists on the media. Because there are multiple copies of the data stored on the media, the probability of being able to successfully read at least one good copy of the data is enhanced. For example, if one of the copies cannot be successfully read due to an unrecoverable error, another of the copies can be used to satisfy the read or restore operation. It is also possible to read all copies of the data in response to a read/restore operation, and any differences in the read data will indicate an error with at least one of the copies.
