    Abstract: A heat sink removes heat from an electronic device and comprises a base, a lid. An inner ring of first fins extend radially outwardly first length from an inner circle and extend axially a first height from the top surface of the base, and an outer ring of second fins extend radially inwardly a second length from an outer periphery and extend axially a second height from the top surface of the base. A confining plate extends radially above the fins and is spaced below the bottom surface of the lid whereby coolant fluid flows from an inlet opening of the lid through the center opening of the confining plate and radially outwardly through the fins and upward around the outer edge of the confining plate and into the space above the confining plate to an outlet opening. A nozzle having a throat is disposed above the lid and extends below the lid to the confining plate. A flow diverter extends upwardly from the top surface of the base and into and through the throat of the nozzle.

    Abstract: The invention provides a heat sink for flowing coolant into inlet manifold channels extending into a inlet edge of a manifold where the flow is forced downward into parallel and spaced micro-channels extending across the manifold channels and re-directing the coolant up into and out of outlet manifold channels extending into an outlet edge of the manifold and interleaved with the inlet manifold channels, and by maintaining a base-width of the micro-channels in the range of forty microns to one hundred microns, maintaining a base-height of the micro-channels in the range of two hundred microns to four hundred microns, maintaining a manifold-height through of the manifold channels in the range of one thousand microns to three thousand microns, and maintaining a manifold-width of the manifold channels in the range of three hundred and fifty microns to one thousand microns.

    Abstract: A heat sink for an electrical device is distinguished by a confining plate extending parallel to and along each lateral side of fins and extending upwardly from a top surface of a base to a bottom surface of a lid to define an outlet-chamber extending from the outer ends of the fins and outside of the fins back toward a vertical nozzle. A cylindrical outlet is disposed on the inlet axis outwardly of each of the confining plates for directing fluid flow on each side of the fins. The outer wall presents a pair of oppositely facing apexes and the outer wall curves outwardly from each apex in opposite directions in a generally heart-shape around and spaced from the fins and back into the outlets to define the outlet-chambers which increase in volume from the ends of the fins back toward the outlets to reduce the fluid pressure.

    Abstract: A heat transfer assembly comprising of an electronic component attached to an attachment point located on a circuit board and a clamping mechanism which applies a downward force against a block. In return, the block applies force against a heat transfer device which contacts the electronic component. The interface between the block and the heat transfer device contain a number of tongues and grooves to allow for positive location of the block against the heat transfer device while the clamping mechanism is fastened to the support. The positive location is configured for applying a localized force against a specific area on the electronic component.

    Abstract: A portable air filtration system includes a filter housing having an air inlet and an air outlet. The filter housing defines a filtration chamber between the air inlet and the air outlet. The portable air filtration system uses an ionizing mechanism, a filter media, and an electrode to filter air. The ionizing mechanism ionizes particles within the air to a negative charge. The filter media is disposed between the ionizing mechanism and the air outlet for entrapping the particles. The electrode is disposed between the ionizing mechanism and the filter media to establish an electric field. The electric field is established between the ionizing mechanism and the electrode adjacent to the filter media. The electrode is also electrically-connected to ground and to the filter media for dissipating the negative charge of the particles entrapped within the filter media.

    Abstract: A method of operation for a motor-driven worm gear actuator coupled to a load device energizes the motor in a series of pulses during an initial period of motor operation when reversal of the motor is commanded. The pulsed energization produces a slow initial axial movement of the motor armature without moving the load device, minimizing the contact force between the armature shaft and a mechanical end stop of the motor. Rotation of the motor is determined by identifying and counting motor current pulses due to commutation, and the pulse count is adjusted at each reversal of motor rotation to compensate for motor current pulses due to the pulsed energization.

    Abstract: An automotive air conditioning assembly has a fan that is molded by a technique that inevitably leaves the lower hub and upper rim radially staggered relative to one another. Therefore, a substantial length of the edges of the blades' bases are unsupported by the incomplete hub, and the air forced radially outwardly between the blades has no fan structure to confine it at that point. The invention provides a fan housing having a wall portion specially shaped so as to provide the air confinement function that the missing section of the fan hub cannot.

    Abstract: An improved film type air temperature control valve for an automotive HVAC assembly has a flexible, apertured belt that wraps closely around both faces of a heater core case internal to the HVAC housing. Winding and unwinding of the belt around the heater core case, and across a heater core bypass passage, simultaneously opens up more of the bypass passage as it closes off more of the heater core faces, and vice versa. Because of the close conformance of the belt to and across the heater core faces, both faces of the always hot heater core can be completely closed to direct or indirect air flow, preventing any undesired incidental heating of the air flow.
