  • Publication number: 20050005163
Abstract: Clients using standard software protocols may access stored validation functions in order to perform validation functions on data via a number of methods including Internet applications, a Java RMI server, a CORBA gateway server and graphical screen interphase applications. The system allows for the efficient performance of validation services on data based on dynamically-maintained, centrally-stored validation functions.

  • Patent number: 6792094
Abstract: At telecommunication service that takes caller mobility into account and allows the caller to connect to a destination on one attempt. The intelligent call connection service according to the present invention receives a call initiated by a caller/subscriber and dials the called party's number identified by the subscriber. If the called party's line is busy or unanswered, the connection service prompts the subscriber to hang up. Thereafter, the connection service continues calling the called party for a predetermined duration and, when the called party answers, calls the subscriber back at one or more of the telephone numbers supplied by the subscriber as part of the service subscription. Thus, the subscriber or caller mobility is not hampered when the called party's line is busy or unanswered. The service-doesn't require the caller/subscriber to reinitiate the call when the called party's line is busy or unanswered.

  • Patent number: 6762582
Abstract: A system for and method of powering an electric-powered device associated with a vehicle is described that utilizes an adapter that receives current from an energy-converting cell and the vehicle battery. The adapter may forward current to the device from either one or a combination of the two current sources thereby charging or operating the device.

  • Patent number: 6735721
Abstract: A message handler can dynamically change messages that are output during execution of a computer application. The messages are stored in a message file. When the application begins execution, it opens the message file, extracts the messages, stores them as message entries in a message table in computer memory and closes the file. Message records and message entries have formatting tags that allow dynamic substitution of desired information without expensive recompiling or version releases.

  • Patent number: 6732359
Abstract: A computer system has a memory, an operating system, and a computer application instantiated in a work space in the memory as managed by the operating system. The application includes a plurality of application processes running in the work space. An application monitor monitors whether each of the plurality of application processes is in fact running, and automatically attempts to remedy an occurrence where any of the plurality of application processes is not in fact running.

  • Patent number: 6691138
Abstract: A configuration file manager provides a graphical user interface for facilitating management of configuration file parameters. Configuration parameters from multiple files can be managed simultaneously. Configuration parameters can be modified, deleted, added, searched and sorted. Comments can be placed in association with particular configuration parameters that provide any information about the parameter including, its history, purpose and dependency on other configuration parameters.

  • Patent number: 5464166
Abstract: A method and apparatus for automatic roll transfer allows a film web winding onto a completed roll on a continuous film winder to be severed, and an incoming edge of the film web to be transferred onto a new core. A cylindrical housing having an external surface with an aperture extending therethrough is rotatably supported along a longitudinal axis thereof. A knife is held in a retracted position within the housing, the knife movably supported by the housing so as to allow the knife to move along a direction orthogonal to the longitudinal axis from the retracted position through the aperture to a cutting position. The apparatus includes elements to rotate the housing, to position the rotating housing adjacent to the film web, and to subsequently release the knife, thereby causing the knife to move from the retracted position to the cutting position and sever the film web.

  • Patent number: 5288033
Abstract: A lay-on roll exerts a nip force against a roll of film winding upon a core. The lay-on roll is rotatably supported by a carriage capable of moving away from the center of the core as the wound roll of film increases in diameter. The carriage is connected to a linear bearing attached to a piston/cylinder assembly for continuously moving the carriage along a straight path colinear with a line connecting the center of the lay-on roll and the center of the core while maintaining a substantially constant nip force.
