  • Patent number: 5099110
Abstract: Electrical power consumption is saved in a low-cost scanner for reading bar code symbols by oscillating one of the scanner components either by mechanical power alone or by a low-power electrical drive.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 30, 1989
Date of Patent: March 24, 1992
    Assignee: Symbol Technologies, Inc.
Inventors: Howard M. Shepard, Boris Metlitsky, Mark Krichever
  • Patent number: 5059779
Abstract: The scan pattern, scan direction of at least one scan line, the intensity of a light beam, and the scan rate are individually or collectively changeable in a scanner for reading bar code symbols.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 13, 1990
Date of Patent: October 22, 1991
    Assignee: Symbol Technologies, Inc.
    Inventors: Mark Krichever, Boris Metlitsky
  • Patent number: 4923281
Abstract: A focusing module for divergent light emitted from a source such as a laser diode. The focusing module consists of telescoping cylindrical members which focus by sliding the members along their central axis and permanently adhering the members to each other after focusing. The focusing lens is embodied in a lens assembly which prevents direct contact between the lens surface and the lens seat in one of the cylindrical members. Axial rotation between the cylindrical members, and between the base and the module is prevented by a series of notch and key elements. Consequently, the opening of the focusing module is fixed with respect to the cross-section of the light emitted, and can be shaped to match the cross section of the laser light beam thereby permitting maximum emission of focused light.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 1, 1988
Date of Patent: May 8, 1990
    Assignee: Symbol Technologies Inc.
    Inventors: Mark Krichever, Yuri Gofman
  • Patent number: 4896026
Abstract: Optical alignment between components in a head of a laser scanner is maintained in the event of external shock. Optical and scanning component assemblies are shock-mounted near their respective centers of mass. A flexible, printed circuit board on which the assemblies are mounted serves as an alignment fixture.
