  • Publication number: 20170202991
Abstract: A method and apparatus for disinfecting a lavatory inside a vehicle in response to a set of criteria being met. A determination is made as to whether a set of criteria for activation of a disinfection system that emits far-ultraviolet radiation to perform a disinfection process inside a lavatory has been met. In response to a determination that the set of criteria has been met, the disinfection system is activated to perform the disinfection process inside the lavatory using the far-ultraviolet radiation.

  • Publication number: 20160138301
Abstract: A self-contained electronic latching system for a stowage bin is disclosed. The system includes an energy storage device, an electronic latch device, a latch button, and one or more energy harvesting systems. The electronic latch device is for opening a door of a stowage bin and is configured to open the door upon receipt of a signal on an input. The electronic latch device is coupled to the energy storage device and is configured to receive electrical power only from the energy storage device. The latch button is for activating an electronic switch coupled to the input of the electronic latch device. The one or more energy harvesting systems are coupled to the energy storage device. Each of the one or more energy harvesting systems is configured to generate electricity and to provide the generated electricity to the energy storage device.

  • Publication number: 20110140462
Abstract: Concepts and technologies described herein provide for a lockable cable-actuated mechanism for latching and releasing aircraft and other stowage bins. According to various aspects, a cable-actuated coupling mechanism includes a handle assembly and a latch assembly. The handle assembly includes an exterior handle connected to a pivoting arm. The latch assembly includes a release mechanism configured to release the latch upon rotation of the release mechanism. A cable connects the pivoting arm of the handle assembly to the release mechanism such that rotation of the exterior handle applies tension to the cable, pulling the release mechanism of the latch assembly. According to other aspects, a locking mechanism may selectively disengage the pivoting arm from the exterior handle to prevent rotation of the pivoting arm when the exterior handle is rotated.

  • Patent number: 5772380
Abstract: A lightweight, two piece adjustable attachment device provides simple installation into a part, develops robust strength, and enables alignment of a retaining screw or bolt axis with the longitudinal axis of a threaded mounting hole, despite part to mount misalignment caused by tolerance build-up in a complex assembly. The adjustable attachment device is designed to provide sufficient overlap on each side of the part of the edges of the circular receiving aperture that the adjustable attachment device is able to withstand great force without pulling out of the part. The adjustable attachment device includes a fastener receiving slot that extends across the adjustable attachment device. The adjustable attachment device is installed into a circular receiving aperture in a part to be assembled onto a larger assembly.
