Patent number: 9165372Abstract: A method of event detection for detecting the occurrence of an event in a crowd is disclosed. The method includes the steps of providing video footage of the crowd, which video footage includes a series of image frames; calculating a series of values representative of the crowd dynamics, which series of values is calculated in dependence on the series of image frames; analyzing the series of values to identify any discrepancies occurring in the series of values; and, in response to identifying a discrepancy, providing an output signal to alert an operator that an event has been detected. In preferred embodiments, the series of values are related to the complexity of the crowd dynamics. Apparatus suitable for carrying out such a method is also disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: October 10, 2007Date of Patent: October 20, 2015Assignee: BAE SYSTEMS PLCInventor: Mark L. Williams

Patent number: 8251036Abstract: A connection between an expansion chamber outlet and a rubber cuff that accommodates an inlet portion of a throttle body exhibits an overmolded, hot plate or spin weld type of connection between an expansion chamber wall outlet portion and the rubber cuff. The rubber cuff may have a bellow in it to absorb shock and force from the throttle body. The rubber cuff may be insert molded around the expansion chamber outlet such that the joined interface between the rubber cuff and the expansion chamber is from the molding. The molded interface prevents separation due to air forces through the chamber and cuff. A cuff recession on a cuff inside diameter receives a protuberance of the throttle body inlet portion. A band clamp fits around the outside diameter of the cuff, adjacent the throttle body inlet protuberance, to prevent movement relative to the throttle body.Type: GrantFiled: March 30, 2009Date of Patent: August 28, 2012Assignee: DENSO International America, Inc.Inventor: Mark L. Williams

Patent number: 7614378Abstract: A connection between an expansion chamber outlet and a rubber cuff that accommodates an inlet portion of a throttle body exhibits a dovetail connection between an expansion chamber wall and the rubber cuff such that the expansion chamber has a dovetail recession while the rubber cuff has a dovetail projection. The rubber cuff is insert molded around the expansion chamber outlet such that the joined interface between the rubber cuff and the expansion chamber is from the molding. The dovetail prevents separation due to air forces through the chamber and cuff. A cuff groove opposite the dovetail projection, on a cuff inside diameter, receives a protuberance of the throttle body inlet portion. A band clamp fits around the outside diameter of the cuff, adjacent the throttle body inlet protuberance, to prevent movement of the throttle body. The cuff has a projection(s) to also prevent slippage of the throttle body.Type: GrantFiled: March 27, 2007Date of Patent: November 10, 2009Assignee: DENSO International America, Inc.Inventor: Mark L. Publication number: 20090242323Abstract: A tuning device may include a tubular portion having a hollow cross section and a flat body portion covering an engine. The body portion may have a chamber disposed therein and a throat providing fluid communication between the chamber and the tubular portion. Air flowing through the tubular portion causes the chamber to produce interfering sound waves having a predetermined frequency. The interfering sound waves manipulate sound waves produced by the engine.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 26, 2008Publication date: October 1, 2009Applicant: DENSO International America, Inc.Inventors: Scott F. Patent number: 7516661Abstract: A microelectromechanical system (MEMS) device with a mechanism layer having a first part and a second part, and at least one cover for sealing the mechanism layer. The inner surface of at least one of the covers is structured such that a protruding structure is present on the inner surface of the cover and wherein the protruding structure mechanically causes the first part to be deflected out of a plane associated with the second part.Type: GrantFiled: February 23, 2006Date of Patent: April 14, 2009Assignee: Honeywell International Inc.Inventors: Jonathan L. Patent number: 6761679Abstract: A device and method for improving the identification, localization, and dosimetry of brachytherapy seeds. The device is a brachytherapy seed comprising a therapeutic isotope and a marker isotope having an activity that is a fraction of the activity produced by the therapeutic isotope. The marker isotope emits positrons and/or photons capable of being imaged using radiation detection devices (e.g., positron emission tomography (PET), single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT), gamma camera, computed tomography (CT)). The radiation dose of the marker isotope delivered beyond the immediate vicinity of the brachytherapy seed is low because the marker isotope is adapted to have an activity of at least one to two orders of magnitude lower than the activity of the therapeutic isotope. Thus, the presence of the marker isotope will not alter the therapeutic characteristics of the brachytherapy seed.Type: GrantFiled: July 2, 2002Date of Patent: July 13, 2004Assignee: Board of Supervisors of Louisiana State University and Agricultural and Mechanical CollegeInventors: Erno Sajo, Mark L. Patent number: 5967542Abstract: A snowboard binding mounting disk (24) includes a body (28) through which 3-hole and 4-hole patterns (8, 10) of mounting holes are formed. The centers of a pair of the 3-hole mounting holes are separated by a base distance (Z). The centers of a pair of the 4-hole mounting holes are separated by an end distance (Y). The end and base distances differ by a distance delta. The pair of end holes and the pair of base holes are positioned adjacent to one another so that the end and base holes overlap one another to create a pair of oblong, dual purpose holes (30). A removable and replaceable mounting element positioner (29) is mounted to the oblong holes at one of two stable positions. The position chosen is determined by whether the dual purpose holes are to be used for the 3-hole pattern or for the 4-hole pattern. The central opening (20) in the base is preferably made by stamping a grooved peripheral surface (22) sized to engage a complementary grooved surface (53) on the disk.Type: GrantFiled: November 25, 1997Date of Patent: October 19, 1999Assignee: Sims Sports, Inc.Inventors: Mark L.
