Abstract: An apparatus for selecting television programs for display comprises a receiver for receiving audio/video data representing the programs and data indicating a schedule for the programs. The schedule includes programs transmitted by one or more broadcast transmission systems, and for one or more of the programs in the schedule an indication that the programs can be received by selectively streaming audio/video data representing the programs. A control processor receives the data indicating the schedule and generates signals representing the schedule for display so a user can select the programs for display or recording. The control processor determines that one of the programs is not available to be selectively streamed, and for the identified programs, identifies one or more alternative sources of the audio/video data relating to the programs and arranges for the generated signals representing the schedule of programs to include an indication of the alternatives for selection.

Abstract: A module is connected to a digital television decoder apparatus by a transport stream interface over which the module supplies a transport stream received in the module over the transport stream interface or over a separate interface. The module has a packet multiplexer arranged to multiplex packets containing application data generated in the module into the received transport stream. This allows the module to implement a man-machine interface.

Abstract: A receiver-decoder apparatus has a video interface to which is connected a module which has a network interface capable of receiving a video signal from a network and which supplies that video signal through the video interface. The receiver-decoder apparatus selectively supplies to a decoder circuit either a broadcast television signal received from a receiver circuit or a video signal received from a video interface. The receiver-decoder apparatus extracts signalling data broadcast with the broadcast television signal and generates an electronic program guide including a list of the services available for reception by the receiver circuit and events in respect of those services. The electronic program guide includes at least one extra entry as a notional service in said list of services in respect of the video signal supplied from the video interface.
