  • Patent number: 11884594
Abstract: A method of producing high strength shaped alumina by feeding alumina power into an agglomerator having a shaft with mixers able to displace the alumina power along the shaft, spraying a liquid binder onto the alumina power as it is displaced along the shaft to form a shaped alumina, and calcining the shaped alumina. The shaped alumina produced having a loose bulk density of greater than or equal to 1.20 g/ml, a surface area less than 10 m2/g, impurities of less than 5 ppm of individual metals and less than 9 ppm of impurities in total, and/or crush strength of greater than 12,000 psi.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 2, 2021
Date of Patent: January 30, 2024
Inventors: David A. Barclay, Mark M. Chavez

  • Publication number: 20080193369
Abstract: A method for producing high porosity boehmite alumina wherein an aqueous boehmite slurry is mixed with an effective amount of a modifier comprising a hydroxide or oxide of an element of group IIIA-VIA on the Periodic Table of Elements and having a pKsp of greater than 11 to produce a precursor mixture and hydrothermally aping the precursor mixture at an elevated temperature under agitation with an effective consumptive power of greater than 1 kW/m3.

  • Patent number: 5837634
Abstract: A process for preparing a stabilized alumina wherein an aqueous slurry of a precursor boehmite alumina is admixed with an effective amount of a stabilizer such as a water-soluble salt of a polyvalent metal cation of Groups IIA and IIIB of the periodic table, the slurry containing the alumina and the stabilizer being aged at a pH of from about 3 to about 9 and a temperature greater than about 70.degree. C. for a period of time sufficient to convert the greater portion of said alumina to a colloidal sol, the colloidal sol being recovered and calcined to produce a stabilized alumina.

  • Patent number: 5618436
Abstract: A process for clarifying a metal allkyl reaction product comprising passing a first feed stream comprising metal alkyls, a first, substantially water-immiscible organic solvent, and solid contaminants through a first membrane filter, the first filter being substantially continuously vibrated when said feed stream is passing through and recovering from the first filter a first permeate substantially free of solid contaminants and a first concentrate containing solid contaminants.
