Publication number: 20250082344Abstract: A surgical drill system for drilling a bore in a bone. The system has a handpiece including a motor and a chuck coupled to the motor for releasably holding a drill bit to the motor so the drill bit can be rotated by the motor. The handpiece defines a lumen. The system also includes a telescoping member being coupled to the handpiece such that the telescoping member is slidable within the lumen of the handpiece. A spring biases the telescoping member in a distal direction relative to the motor. A brake is attached to the handpiece and is moveable relative to the telescoping member to an engaged position to stop movement of the telescoping member. An actuator is configured to move the brake to the engaged position responsive to a signal received from a controller when the drill bit penetrates bone.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 22, 2024Publication date: March 13, 2025Applicant: Stryker CorporationInventor: Mark M. Patent number: 12156657Abstract: A surgical drill for use with a drill bit. The drill includes a handpiece with a motor and a brake mechanism. The brake mechanism is a sliding rack adjacent a first end and a second end with a stop adjacent the drill bit. An actuator is mounted to the handpiece and a plunger is coupled to the actuator. A sensor asserts a signal when the drill bit penetrates bone. When the sensor asserts the signal indicting the drill bit penetrated bone, the actuator moves the plunger into engagement with the rack to prevent further insertion of the drill bit.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 2022Date of Patent: December 3, 2024Assignee: Stryker CorporationInventor: Mark M. Patent number: 11672582Abstract: A wire driver for driving a wire or pin into living tissue includes a rotating drive shaft, a collet, and a wedge. The collet is held fast to the drive shaft and has a plurality of feet radially moveable relative for grasping the wire or pin. Each foot has an outwardly located curved ankle surface with a concave or convex profile. The wedge is disposed over the collet and is at least partly inside the bore of the drive shaft. The wedge rotates with the drive shaft and has a tapered inner surface in selective engagement with the curved ankle surfaces. The wedge is moveable longitudinally relative to the collet feet to bear against the feet and cause the feet to grasp the wire or pin. The wedge has a release position in which the wedge is spaced from the collet feet, releasing the wire or pin.Type: GrantFiled: February 9, 2021Date of Patent: June 13, 2023Assignee: Stryker CorporationInventors: Mark M. Patent number: 5547278Abstract: The invention is a lock for the bowl support of a food mixing machine. After the bowl is raised into the mixing position, the lock ensures that the bowl maintains its position and is not subject to creep. The mixing machine comprises a mixing head, a mixing bowl support for supporting a mixing bowl under the mixing head, a gear train for moving the bowl support and mixing bowl into position beneath the mixing head, and a lock which engages the gear train to prevent the bowl support from moving out of position beneath the mixing head during mixing. The lock is preferably a pawl which engages one of the gears in the gear train, preventing the bowl and the bowl support from moving out of position.Type: GrantFiled: March 29, 1995Date of Patent: August 20, 1996Assignee: Premark FEG CorporationInventor: Mark M.
