  • Publication number: 20170289319
Abstract: A codec-specific radio link adaptation procedure can be implemented at the radio access network (RAN) level. A process includes receiving, from a mobile device, a bitstream carrying speech data as part of a communication session, determining, based at least in part on a result of inspecting packets of the bitstream or a notification message from an Internet Protocol (IP) Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) core, that the bitstream is associated with a codec that provides improved performance of the mobile device as compared to legacy codecs in similar radio conditions; and adapting a radio link for the communication session according to the codec.

  • Publication number: 20170195932
Abstract: A handover procedure can be implemented using a codec-specific threshold as a triggering event for the handover procedure. A mobile device can initiate a communication session with a serving access point (AP). The mobile device can receive a codec established for the communication session, access a set of codec-specific thresholds stored in memory of the mobile device to determine a handover triggering threshold that is specific to the codec used for the communication session. The mobile device can measure a parameter of a radio signal from the serving AP, and when the measured parameter falls below the codec-specific threshold, a handover procedure can be initiated to transition the communication session to a target AP.

  • Publication number: 20170188366
Abstract: A system, apparatus and method is disclosed for multiband wireless communication. Frequency bands and/or transmission formats are identified as available within a range for wireless communication. The system evaluates signal quality metrics for each frequency band and selects a communication method based on the evaluation. Multiple frequency bands and communication methods can be utilized by the system such that a combination of licensed, unlicensed, semilicensed, and overlapped frequency bands can be simultaneously used for communication. The system monitors communications and can report link performance for adaptive control of the selected communication methods.

  • Publication number: 20170180245
Abstract: A telecommunication device configured to select one of a plurality of network connectivities of the telecommunication device to use for transmission of a network packet is described herein. The telecommunication device may select the network connectivity based on user routing criteria, connectivity metrics, or transmission times. The user routing criteria may be dynamically updated during a communication or connection, affecting selection of the network connectivity for further network packets. The network connectivities may be respectively associated with different network operators. Also, the telecommunication device may select a first network connectivity for transmitting a first network packet and a second network connectivity for transmitting a second network packet. Further, the telecommunication device may select a first network connectivity for uplink communications and a second network connectivity for downlink communications.

  • Publication number: 20150071239
Abstract: Described herein is a radio access provider configured to communicate with wireless access devices over frequency bands. The radio access provider receives service priorities associated with active applications of the wireless communication devices. Based at least in part on the service priorities, the radio access provider selects blocks or channels from one or more of the frequency bands for a radio communication link for each of at least a subset of the wireless communication devices. The selecting may include selecting block or channels from multiple ones of the frequency bands for the radio communication link for at least one of the subset of the wireless communication devices. The selecting may also be based at least in part on signal quality metrics for the frequency bands, cross-correlations of the frequency bands, or power capacities of the wireless communication devices.

Abstract: A system, apparatus and method is disclosed for multiband wireless communication. Frequency bands and/or transmission formats are identified as available within a range for wireless communication. Signal quality metrics for each frequency band are evaluated by a receiver to identify qualified frequency bands. The qualified frequency bands can be ranked according to one or more signal quality metrics, where the list of qualified bands can be communicated to a transmitter. The transmitter is arranged to evaluate the list of qualified bands and select a communication method based on the available frequency bands and a selected communication optimization scenario. Multiple frequency bands and communication methods can be utilized by the transmitter such that a combination of licensed, unlicensed, semilicensed, and overlapped frequency bands can be simultaneously used for communication.
