  • Publication number: 20210015646
Abstract: Provided are devices and related methods for weight loss. A size-varying gastric balloon is deployed in the stomach and a malabsorption sleeve is deployed in the small intestine. In some embodiments, the malabsorption sleeve is connected directly to the balloon. In other embodiments, the malabsorption sleeve is detached from the balloon and both are tethered to a transabdominal gastric cannula via a nutrient injection tube and a fluid conduit, respectively. The fluid conduit serves as pathway to introduce and remove fluid to/from the balloon as desired, and to tether the balloon in the stomach during use. The injection tube serves to facilitate controlled nutrition supply through the transabdominal gastric cannula to the small intestine, and to tether the malabsorption sleeve in the small intestine during use. Methods of using and deploying the devices described herein for weight-loss are also provided.

  • Publication number: 20190314009
Abstract: Provided herein are trans-abdominal gastric systems and related methods that are useful in a range of applications for accessing internal regions of a patient. A cannula has internal and external anchors to reliably secure the anchor to an abdominal wall of the patient. An introducer with a capture element facilitates system placement by retrograde introduction. Upon completion, the system is removed and the gastric and abdominal wall incision and defect closed by sutures specially connected to the system that ensures reliable system removal and suture closure in a configuration that is outside the abdominal wall. The systems and methods are particularly suited for use with conventional laparoscopic or endoscopic medical instruments.

  • Publication number: 20180116850
Abstract: Provided are devices and related methods for weight loss. A size-varying gastric balloon having a passage connected to an elongated sleeve forms a continuous pathway extension so that swallowed food is not absorbed by the body, thereby promoting weight loss. The connection of the sleeve to the gastric balloon avoids the need to directly anchor the proximal sleeve, with the balloon providing that anchoring function. Also provided are gastric balloons having a shape-controllable funnel to provide desired weight loss parameters tailored to the need of an individual and specially configured double lumen sleeves to facilitate controlled nutrition supply to a patient. Methods of deploying any of the devices described herein for weight-loss are also provided.

  • Publication number: 20150150699
Abstract: Provided herein are balloon systems and related methods for the treatment of obesity. The system includes a trans-abdominal gastric cannula and size-varying balloons that, with the assistance of the cannula(s) and anchors, are specially positioned and anchored to the gastric wall. The size-varying balloon may have an annulus that in combination with reliable and precise balloon positioning, minimizes the risk of gastric obstruction during use. A malabsorption sleeve may be positioned in the small intestine to further restrict caloric intake through the small intestine. The specially-configured gastric cannula provides a platform for accessing the gastric environment that facilitates precise handling, manipulation, and placement of balloons, including an annular-shaped balloon, in the gastric environment, including by balloon anchors connecting the balloon wall to the lumen-facing stomach wall.
