  • Patent number: 8674608
Abstract: A luminaire with a light source, controller, and sensors to emit light into an environment is described. The controller may include a processor and memory to analyze data relating to conditions in the environment and to control the light source emitting light. The sensors may be in communication with the controller to detect conditions in the environment and generate data relating to same. The data may be receivable by the controller. Rules affect operation of the luminaire, which may be manipulated using an interface. The luminaire may communicate with devices connected through a network. Light and an auxiliary signal may be emitted substantially simultaneously to provide spatial awareness.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 23, 2012
Date of Patent: March 18, 2014
    Assignee: Lighting Science Group Corporation
Inventors: Eric Holland, Mark P. Boomgaarden, Eric Thosteson
  • Publication number: 20130293148
Abstract: A luminaire provides light having a distribution pattern with high center beam candle power and a gradual gradient across a wide area. The luminaire includes a light source having first and second sets of light emitting elements selected and positioned to achieve the desired light distribution pattern. The luminaire further includes an optic configured to refract light emitted from the light source to achieve the desired light distribution pattern.

Inventors: Eric Holland, Mark P. Boomgaarden, Ryan Kelley
  • Publication number: 20130294071
Abstract: A luminaire with a prismatic optic permits the nearly uniform distribution of light about the luminaire. The prismatic optic permits the use of directional light sources, such as light emitting diodes, while maintaining the uniform light distribution. When light emitting diodes are used, the luminaire further includes a heat sink to maintain a desirable operational temperature without negatively affecting the light distribution properties of the luminaire.

  • Publication number: 20010038502
Abstract: A faceted reflector assembly includes a plurality of reflector segments which are preferably, but not necessarily, comprised of pre-anodized and enhanced aluminum having a specular, semi-specular or a diffuse finish. The reflector segments include interlocking means such as tabs and slots for attachment to other reflector segments. The reflector segments, when interlocked, form the faceted reflector of the present invention.

  • Patent number: 6200007
Abstract: A luminaire assembly adapted for being suspended from an overhead location includes an electrical assembly having a housing with a longitudinal axis, a main housing portion, and an outwardly extending lower edge portion. It also includes an optical member having an interior surface and an upper opening. The interior surface includes an end wall disposed about the upper opening. The upper opening receives the elongated housing therethrough and is coaxial therewith, and also has a shape which corresponds to the elongated housing. In a suspended orientation for the luminaire assembly, the housing projects from the upper opening of the optical member so that the lower edge portion is adjacent to the end wall and extends around the upper opening for retaining and suspending the optical member. In a nested orientation the main housing portion of the elongated housing is disposed within the optical member so that the lower edge portion is distal the upper opening.
