    Abstract: There is described a method of filling a sample chamber with a particulate material, said method comprising the steps of: opening an inlet valve to allow only a portion of the particulate material into the sample chamber; drawing air through the particulate material from the base of the sample chamber; closing the inlet valve is closed and opening a flow control valve to apply compression to the particulate material for a set period of time; releasing the pressure; and repeating the steps until the sample chamber is full.
