Patent number: 6390782Abstract: A variable control valve 10 for a gas compression system is disclosed for a gas compressor 100 with a piston 116 having a variable displacement within a compression chamber 114 of the gas compressor. A pressure within a crankcase chamber 118 of the gas compressor acts upon the piston A diaphragm 36 within the control valve, controls a flow of high and low pressure gas into and out of the pressure chamber, thus controlling the displacement of the piston. The diaphragm is acted upon by a predetermined reference pressure within a reference chamber 90 of the control valve. The predetermined reference pressure within the reference chamber is created by a flow into and out of the reference chamber of the high and low pressure gas. The predetermined reference pressure can be changed in order to optimize compressor output. This flow is controlled by reference chamber valve means (88, 86) operably coupled to the reference chamber, the reference chamber valve means being responsive to electrical signals.Type: GrantFiled: March 21, 2000Date of Patent: May 21, 2002Assignee: Alumina Micro LLCInventors: Steven Brent Booth, Jay Arthur Ballard, Mark Paul Ballard

Patent number: 6338066Abstract: Given a log of previous web-surfer behavior listing the order in which each surfer downloaded specific items at the web site, and given a meaningful classification of those same items, future surfer behavior is predicted by the present invention. The algorithm utilizes a quantitative model relating items downloaded prior to some specified event to items downloaded after that same event. When the model is applied to a new surfer's session prior to an analogous event, the present invention predicts the likely behavior of the surfer subsequent to that event. The predicted behavior is then further analyzed to derive a quantitative value for the utility of the expected behavior. By randomly selecting sample sessions from a web log, multiple models of surfer behavior can be generated. The multiple models can then be applied to a new surfer's session to produce a predicted behavior/utility distribution and thus a confidence interval for the predicted behavior/utility.Type: GrantFiled: September 25, 1998Date of Patent: January 8, 2002Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: David Charles Martin, Hansel Joseph Miranda, Mark Paul Plutowski, William Scott Spangler, Shivakumar Vaithyanathan, Kevin Wheeler, David Hilton Wolpert

Patent number: 6105921Abstract: A seat mounting mechanism for mounting a seat for adjustable fore and aft movement, the mechanism having an elongate fixed rail which is adapted to be securable to a substructure, pan or floor, a movable rail which is engageable with the fixed rail and adapted to be securable to a seat, and at least one locking member mounted on a first one of the fixed rail and the movable rails. The locking member is pivotable between an engagement position in which it locks the movable rail relative to the fixed rail and a retracted position in which it frees the movable rail for adjustment along the fixed rail. The locking member is mounted on the first rail for pivotable movement, between the engagement and retracted positions, about a pivot axis extending substantially parallel to the rails. The locking member has an engagement mechanism by which it is selectively engageable with an engagement mechanism of, and disposed along, a second one of the rails when the locking member is in its engagement position.Type: GrantFiled: March 3, 1998Date of Patent: August 22, 2000Assignee: Henderson's Industries Pty. Patent number: 6055579Abstract: A system for synchronization of data processing in a data processing system including multiple command queues is disclosed. The disclosed data processing system includes one or more processing engines associated with one or more command queues. The use of multiple command queues supports multiple priority levels, such that commands in higher priority queues may preempt commands in lower priority queues. Data processing is synchronized by queue commands that allow a processing engine to queue commands on the command queue of any processing engine in the data processing system, including its own. Multiple data dependencies are resolved by conditional queue commands and event counters that queue a command only when all of the conditions precedent to execution of a particular data processing command are satisfied. The hardware queuing of the disclosed invention advantageously synchronizes data processing with minimal software supervision and with minimal latency.Type: GrantFiled: November 17, 1997Date of Patent: April 25, 2000Assignee: Silicon Graphics, Inc.Inventors: Girish Kumar Goyal, Robert Anthony William, Michael Ken Minakami, David Allen Lockett, Tarik Isani, Mark Paul von Gnechten

Patent number: 5690811Abstract: A method for extracting oil from oil-contaminated soil containing 2 to 5 wt. % oil, comprising contacting the oil-contaminated soil with a solvent in the presence of sonic energy in the frequency range of 0.5 to 2.0 kHz. Specifically, a solvent is first mixed with the oil-contaminated soil and the mixture is then formed into a slurry of oil-contaminated soil particles suspended in the solvent. Thereafter the oil-contaminated soil slurry is passed through a shaker screen to remove soil particles greater than 1/4 inch. The oil-contaminated soil slurry containing the smaller soil particles is then fed into the top of a vertically disposed, substantially rectangular shaped, hollow acoustic chamber of uniform cross-section. Fresh solvent is injected into the bottom of the acoustic chamber that flows upwardly through the acoustic chamber. The fresh solvent is injected at a rate low enough whereby the oil-contaminated soil particles fall by gravity through the upwardly flowing solvent.Type: GrantFiled: October 17, 1995Date of Patent: November 25, 1997Assignee: Mobil Oil CorporationInventors: Robert Mitchell Davis, James Mark Paul
