  • Patent number: 8620155
Abstract: An optical noise monitoring method and monitor, the monitor comprising an optical transmitter for receiving at least a portion of an optical signal, a device arranged to extract a reflected optical signal comprising a portion of the optical signal back-reflected by stimulated Brillouin scattering in the optical transmitter, and a photodetector for receiving the reflected optical signal. The optical transmitter can scatter the optical signal by stimulated Brillouin scattering.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 13, 2008
Date of Patent: December 31, 2013
    Assignee: The University of Sydney
Inventors: Benjamin John Eggleton, Mark Pelusi, Timothy Iredale
  • Patent number: 8396367
Abstract: This invention concerns a high frequency optical processor suitable for time-division demultiplexing and channel dropping data signals at bit rates of 80-160 Gb/s and beyond, and for carving high frequency pulse streams with low duty cycle from an unmodulated laser source. In further aspects the invention concerns methods for using the high frequency optical processor. In particular the invention comprises a high frequency optical processor, comprising a Mach-Zehnder amplitude modulator (MZM) embedded in a fiber mirror loop in which the loop input and output are joined by a polarization maintaining coupler.
