  • Publication number: 20150300622
Abstract: A flushmount luminaire is configured to be flush mounted on a mounting surface. The flushmount luminaire includes a light source having a plurality of light emitting diodes (LEDs); a combination heat spreader and heat sink disposed in thermal communication with the light source such that the combination heat spreader and heat sink facilitates transfer of heat away from the LEDs; and, a power conditioner structurally configured and disposed to receive AC voltage from an electrical supply and to provide DC voltage to the plurality of LEDs. The combination heat spreader and heat sink has an outer dimension that is larger than: an opening defined by a nominally sized can light fixture; and, an opening defined by a nominally sized electrical junction box. A back surface of the combination heat spreader and heat sink is configured to permit the flushmount luminaire to be flush mounted on the mounting surface.

  • Patent number: 9157581
Abstract: A low profile luminaire to be carried by a lighting fixture. The luminaire may include a light source that comprises light-emitting diodes (LEDs), a heat sink thermally coupled to and disposed diametrically outboard of the light source, a reflector in optical communication with and disposed diametrically inboard of the light source, and a light guide in optical communication with at least one of the light source and the reflector and disposed therebetween. Light emitted from the light source may be reflected by the reflector into an edge of the light guide. Light propagating through the light guide may be projected into the environment at a uniform luminance. The luminaire may be dimensioned to cover a nominally sized four-inch can light fixture and/or electrical junction box. A method aspect of the invention details steps for assembling the low profile luminaire with light guide.

  • Patent number: 9157618
Abstract: A luminaire may be carried by a lighting fixture and may have a generally concave elongate-shaped housing defining an optical chamber and an aperture. The luminaire may include a plurality of lighting devices each having a heat sink, a light source, and a magnetic attachment member. The magnetic attachment member may magnetically bind a lighting device to pads proximate to ferromagnetic material in the housing. Light emitted by the light source may enter the optical chamber and pass through the aperture in a generally orthogonal direction in relation to the orientation of the device. Electrical power may be delivered by one or more power supply unit of either an external or an on-board type, and by using either inductive or conductive coupling. Network interfaces may enable communication of control instructions among a multiple controllers located either within a single luminaire or distributed among multiple luminaires.

  • Publication number: 20150285473
Abstract: A lighting device may include an electrical base, a stabilizer adapted to be matingly connected to the electrical base, a body member, and an optic connected to the body member and defining an optical chamber. A light source may be positioned within the optical chamber and in electrical communication with the electrical base. The stabilizer may be transitionable from an engaged position with the electrical base and a disengaged position with the electrical base. The disengaged position allows for the stabilizer to be translated longitudinally with respect to the base member. The engaged position slidably fixes the stabilizer with respect to the heat sink by reducing space between the electrical base, the enclosure and the heat sink.

  • Patent number: 9151453
Abstract: A lighting device comprising a heat sink, a light source in thermal communication with the heat sink, and a power source operably coupled with the light source. The heat sink, light source, and power source are positioned in a cavity defined by an enclosure and an optic which present a puck-like shape when assembled. A magnetic attachment member installed in the cavity of the enclosure magnetically binds the lighting device to a ferromagnetic material external to the lighting device. The power source receives an AC input voltage through inductive and/or conductive coupling, and converts the voltage to DC to support light-emitting diodes (LEDs). A controller may operate the light source based on instructions transmitted by a beam adjustment device and/or an occupancy sensor. A method aspect of the invention details steps for assembling the lighting device.

  • Publication number: 20150226410
Abstract: A lamp connector may include a base member, a top member and connector members that connect the base member to the top member. The base member may include arcuate passageways in a bottom portion and a first and second pair of opposing sidewall members that extend upwardly from the bottom portion. The top portion of each of the first pair and second pair of opposing sidewall members may have a cutaway portion having a radius. The radius of the cutaway portion of the first pair of opposing sidewalls may be different from the radius of the second pair of opposing sidewalls. The cutaway portion may be formed to fit a lamp connecting member. The base member may be selectively rotatable with respect to the top member so as to enable engagement between one of the first pair of sidewalls and the second pair of sidewalls with the lamp connecting member.
