  • Publication number: 20080049950
Abstract: A nonlinear processor for distorting audio signals having an input stage (15) that is arranged to split an audio input signal (13) into two signal paths and then a pair of asymmetric distortion stages (17, 19), one in each signal path, with non-equal negative and positive saturation limits, so as to produce opposite polarity mean signal levels at their outputs in each signal path, and which produce a smooth transition from linear to nonlinear behaviour. Following the asymmetric distortion stages (17, 19) is a pair of AC-coupled symmetric distortion stages (21, 23), one in each signal path, and an output stage (25) that is arranged to add the two nonlinearly distorted signals from the symmetric distortion stages to generate an audio output signal (27) that demonstrates a smooth transition from linear behaviour to the production of crossover-like artifacts.

  • Patent number: 7233673
Abstract: An in-line early enhancement generation system comprises one or more microphones positioned close to one or more sound sources so as to detect predominantly direct sound, an early reflection generation stage which generates a number of delayed reproductions of the microphone signals and which has unitary power gain whereby the stability of the system is independent of the delay times and amplitudes, and a number of loudspeakers placed to broadcast said early reflected energy into the room.

  • Publication number: 20050287951
Abstract: The purpose of this invention is to provide a wireless 802.11x local area network provider the ability to monitor network connectivity. This invention uses remote units placed at each network access point location and allows for automated sessions to be customized to monitor connectivity. It allows for full-duplex connectivity measurements. It provides the network operator with a method for a remote server to interact with the delivery of measurement data which is used to monitor network connectivity. It also provides the network operator with a method to poll multiple remote units per remote server.

  • Publication number: 20050288009
Abstract: The purpose of this invention is to provide a small, low-cost, modular unit which can be used for automated wireless network benchmarking and data collection. This invention provides a method to conduct simultaneous performance measurements on wireless networks that use multiple air interface technologies in multiple frequency bands. The invention will be capable of placing calls on wireless networks and recording typical diagnostic measurements and performance data, along with position information, without the use of a traditional wireless phone and data collection vehicle. This information is routinely used by service providers and other customers to identify performance problem areas, roaming issues and competitive benchmarking. One method for downloading performance data will be over a stand-alone 802.11x network at a predetermined location at the end of the drive-test period to a simple server and storage unit where it can be accessed for analysis.

  • Publication number: 20050201573
Abstract: A musical instrument amplifier circuit that can produce an output signal having a level of distortion that depends on the input signal. The amplifier circuit includes an amplifier arranged to receive the input signal and a filter following the amplifier that produces the output signal, wherein the output signal is fed back into the input signal so that the bandwidth of the amplifier circuit is modulated by the input signal. For example, the bandwidth of the amplifier circuit is wider at lower amplifier gains or input signal levels than at higher amplifier gains or input signal levels.

  • Patent number: 5729613
Abstract: A multi-channel reverberation system has a substantially constant multi-channel power gain at audio frequencies and comprises multiple signal inputs, one for each input channel, a number of comb filter networks connected to each signal input, each comb filter network including a feed forward stage, a cross-coupling network cross-coupling the comb filters to increase the reverberation echo density, and multiple signal outputs, one for each output channel. Preferably the feed forward stage of each comb filter provides a substantially constant multi-channel power gain at audio frequencies and the cross-coupling matrix is an orthogonal cross-coupling matrix cross-coupling a number of single channel allpass comb filters, positioned immediately before or after the delay lines, to create a multi-channel allpass comb filter with a unitary transfer function matrix at all frequencies.
