Publication number: 20190299152Abstract: A drying system includes an assembly with a housing defining an interior space. The housing has an inner wall with a first opening through which the inner chamber communicates with the outer chamber. The housing has an outer wall with a second opening. A rechargeable desiccant and a door are disposed in the outer chamber, and the door is movable between a first position and a second position. The door at least partially seals the second opening and unseals the first opening when in the first position, and at least partially seals the first opening and unseals the second opening when in the second position. A shape memory alloy actuator moves the door between the first position and the second position in response to a change in temperature of the shape memory alloy.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 27, 2018Publication date: October 3, 2019Applicant: GM Global Technology Operations LLCInventors: Paul W. Publication number: 20190271450Abstract: A lamp assembly includes a housing forming an interior space, and having a first portion and a second portion. A light source is disposed within the interior space and positioned to direct light through the first portion. An electrically resistive coating is disposed on the first portion of the housing, and is operable to heat the first portion to create a positive temperature gradient in which the first portion exhibits a higher temperature than the second portion so that moisture within the interior space condenses on the second portion and not the first portion. A self-contained power supply, including an energy storage device and a solar cell, may be incorporated into the housing. An interior surface of the first portion may be coated with a hydrophobic coating, and an interior surface of the second portion may be coated with a hydrophilic coating.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 5, 2018Publication date: September 5, 2019Applicant: GM GLOBAL TECHNOLOGY OPERATIONS LLCInventors: Robert Dallos, Jr., Xiaosong Huang, Shannen M. Patent number: 10006601Abstract: Disclosed are vehicle lamp assembly housings, methods for making and for using such housings, and motor vehicles with lamp assemblies employing such housings. A protective lamp housing is disclosed for a motor vehicle lamp assembly. The lamp housing includes a housing body that attaches to the vehicle structure of a motor vehicle. The housing body has an internal chamber that stores therein a light source. The housing body has an open end that attaches to a light-transmissive lens to fluidly isolate the internal chamber. A heat sink with a plurality of convective cooling fins projecting from a thermally conductive main body is integrally formed with the housing body. When joined in this manner, the main body extends into the internal chamber and the cooling fins extend out of the housing body. The heat sink's main body and cooling fins are collectively configured to dissipate heat from the internal chamber.Type: GrantFiled: July 19, 2016Date of Patent: June 26, 2018Assignee: GM Global Technology Operations LLCInventors: Mark R. Patent number: 9291193Abstract: An assembly for enabling multi-adjustment of a lamp is provided. The assembly includes a frame to which the lamp is attachable, a ball joint, and an apparatus for retaining the ball joint. The ball joint has a head and a neck. The apparatus is attached to the frame, and includes a housing and a cap. The housing defines a chamber configured to receive the head of the ball joint. The housing may further define a slot in which the neck is slidable such that the ball joint is insertable into and removable from the chamber. The cap is configured to interlock with the housing to secure the ball joint such that they are substantially restricted to rotational movement with respect to each other. The cap and the housing may have retention tabs and retention ridges, respectively, configured to engage with each other to enable the interlocking.Type: GrantFiled: July 15, 2013Date of Patent: March 22, 2016Assignee: GM Global Technology Operations LLCInventors: Larry E. Wainscott, Mark Roscoe, Mark R. Gordon

Patent number: 8380894Abstract: A system, method and program product for tracking an I/O mapping-path among a plurality of nodes in a storage configuration. A system is disclosed that includes: a path tracking manager implemented at a host system that enables I/O mapping-path tracking for an I/O request being serviced within the storage configuration; and a path tagging system implemented at each of a plurality of virtual storage nodes within the storage configuration, wherein each path tagging system appends mapping-path information to the I/O request in response to receiving and processing the I/O request.Type: GrantFiled: December 11, 2009Date of Patent: February 19, 2013Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventor: Mark R. Patent number: 8371732Abstract: A body panel for a vehicle includes an outer lens and a light engine projecting a light into the outer lens. The body panel includes a duct, which is disposed at a substantially equal vertical elevation as the outer lens. The light engine is positioned relative to the outer lens to allow the duct to pass directly behind the outer lens, at approximately the same vertical elevation, to improve air flow through the duct.Type: GrantFiled: October 14, 2010Date of Patent: February 12, 2013Assignee: GM Global Technology Operations LLCInventors: Scott P. Charnesky, Jason W. Guenzel, Mark R. Gordon

Publication number: 20120294028Abstract: A ball and socket assembly includes a support having a plurality of arms extending between a face plate and a base, and defining a socket cup. A spherical end of a ball stud is disposed within the socket cup in a snap fit engagement with the plurality of arms. A radial biasing device is disposed annularly about an outer periphery of an upper portion of the plurality of arms to resist movement of the plurality of arms radially outward relative to the longitudinal axis, thereby increasing a retention force resisting removal of the spherical end of the ball stud from within the socket cup.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 19, 2011Publication date: November 22, 2012Applicant: GM GLOBAL TECHNOLOGY OPERATIONS LLCInventors: Larry E. Wainscott, Mark R. Gordon

Publication number: 20120263931Abstract: A composite substrate includes first and second substrate layers with a polyurethane foam layer there between. The foam layer preferably penetrates into the first and second substrate layers to form very strong bonds without the need for intervening adhesives. A component of the foam material formulation is natural oil. The resultant composite substrate thereby has excellent load-bearing properties. It can also be manufactured with lower cost capital equipment and a reduced impact on the environment relative to substrates using more conventional foam formulations and bonding processes.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 12, 2012Publication date: October 18, 2012Applicant: ATI INDUSTRIES, INC.Inventors: Stuart B. Smith, Richard Guy, Mark R. Gordon, Mark D. White

Publication number: 20080168058Abstract: A system for analyzing predicate usage and proposing solutions to improve query performance. The system comprises a system for collecting performance statistics for database queries; an aggregation system that organizes the performance statistics based on predicate combinations used in the database queries; and an evaluation system that compares the performances of queries having similar predicate combinations. Further features include a problem identification system that identifies a predicate, which when added to a query, results in a low performing query, and a solution proposal system that automatically proposes a solution to address the low performing query.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 20, 2008Publication date: July 10, 2008Inventor: Mark R.
