  • Patent number: 10767712
Abstract: A system and method for determining filling parameters of a wet clutch system used with a transmission is provided. The method comprises the steps of collecting information about the torque output of the torque converter of the transmission during a filling process associated with the wet clutch system, analyzing the signal associated with the torque output of the torque converter within a time period of the filling process associated with the wet clutch system, and identifying when the signal associated with the torque output of the torque converter changes with respect to the time period of the filling process of the piston to determine a filling parameter associated with the wet clutch system. The system and method eliminates a need for recalibrating the transmission and accommodates production variances for components and assembly of systems using wet clutch systems.

Abstract: A method of controlling an all-wheel-drive system connect event including providing a power transmission apparatus having a clutch, a propeller shaft, and a rear drive unit with a clutch pack assembly. The rear drive unit clutch pack is actuated by creating a model of the propeller shaft rotational speed, adapting the model parameters to compensate for temperature and vehicle wheel speed, storing the model, adapting the model utilizing information collected during a previous all-wheel-drive system connect event, and developing a set point for the clutch driving element utilizing the model and a multi-loop control architecture. The power transmission apparatus clutch is then engaged.

  • Patent number: 10233949
Abstract: A method for minimizing a fuel consumption rate of a vehicle and a method for tracking an optimal state of charge function for a hydrostatic accumulator are provided. The first method includes the steps of providing a motor and pump, determining an efficiency of the motor and pump using an efficiency map, providing a power source, and controlling the motor independent from the pump with a controller. The controller employs the efficiency of the motor and the pump to minimize the fuel consumption rate of the vehicle. The second method includes the steps of determining the optimal state of charge control function, calculating an optimal state of charge of the hydrostatic accumulator, determining a state of charge error, calculating a corrective value, and adjusting a state of a charge based on the corrective value and the state of charge error by adjusting the charge of the hydrostatic accumulator.

  • Publication number: 20190078512
Abstract: A torque ripple compensating device for an internal combustion engine is provided. The torque ripple compensating device comprises a first member, a second member, and a third member. The first member is in driving engagement with an output of the internal combustion engine. The second member is in driving engagement with the first member. The third member is in driving engagement with the second member. An angular deviation between the first member and the third member causes a cyclical acceleration of the third member. The cyclical acceleration of the third member applies a torque to the output of the internal combustion engine through the first member. The torque ripple compensating device is able to be passively or dynamically adapted for both an amplitude and a phase of a torque ripple while minimizing an interference with an operation of the internal combustion engine.

  • Patent number: 10088026
Abstract: Systems, devices, and methods are provided for the transmission of power in motor vehicles. Power can be transmitted in a smoother and more efficient manner, with smaller and even less mechanical components, by splitting torque into two or more torque paths. A power transmission apparatus comprises a power input shaft, a planetary gear set coupled to the power input shaft, and a variator, such as a continuously variable transmission (CVT), coupled to the gear set. The various components of the planetary gear set and the variator are arranged such that torque is split between two or more torque paths and then recombined before power is output to a gear box and a differential of the motor vehicle.

  • Patent number: 10087998
Abstract: A method to estimate an amount of force in a clutch pack of a clutch actuation system. The method includes engaging an actuation motor to apply a set point force to the clutch pack and monitoring a position of the actuation motor when the set point force is applied. Additionally, the method includes determining one or more clutch clamping curves and one or more clutch releasing curves based on a relationship between the position of the actuation motor and an amount of torque applied by the actuation motor at position of the actuation motor. The method further includes modeling one or more frictional characteristics of the clutch actuation system and estimating an amount of clamping and releasing force within the clutch pack by using a control unit. The amount of torque applied to the clutch pack between the clutch clamping and releasing curves at the set point force is maintained.

  • Publication number: 20180245674
Abstract: This invention relates to controlling the speed ratio of a Continuous Variable Transmission with a hydraulic method. The Ball Planetary CVT design is adapted with a mechanical and hydraulic addition. The carrier of the ball-type variator is supported by hydraulic actuators. The result is that the speed ratio is controlled by both a set speed ratio and the torque flowing through the CVT. Subsequently, torque peaks are avoided and controllability of the CVT is increased.

  • Patent number: 10030751
Abstract: A variable transmission includes various powerpath layouts consisting in either; a single mode with approximately symmetrical reverse and forward speeds and includes an input shaft, one or two planetary gear sets, or a planetary gear set and a compound gear set when the RTS (ring-to-sun) ratio of the planetary gear set is not physically possible; or a dual mode with each mode being selected by closing a clutch/brake and releasing the other. A first up-speed planetary gear set on the input side of a variator, and a second planetary gear set on the output side of the variator, both configured to split the torque when drivingly engaged with a variator comprising, a first ring assembly, and a second ring assembly. Various up-speed ratio arrangements are shown that tend to increase the speeds and decrease the torque acting on the CVP, allowing a decrease in the variator size.

  • Patent number: 9956966
Abstract: A method of vehicle and operator guidance by pattern recognition begins with collecting data on vehicle and operator patterns through sensors. The collected data is combined and analyzed with a pattern recognition algorithm. The combined and analyzed data is compared with patterns in a pattern database. If data matches a pattern in the pattern database, the pattern can be selected. If the data does not match a pattern in the pattern database, a new pattern can be created and selected. Based on the selected pattern, a determination is made to passively assist the operator, selectively assist the operator or passively and actively assist the operator. The determined action is then implemented.
