  • Patent number: 10500235
Abstract: The invention provides compositions based on medicinal honey containing broad-spectrum antibacterial activities of peroxide, polyphenols and methylglyoxal, for the treatment of wounds; and methods of treating a wound, comprising contacting a wound with the above composition or a wound dressing containing the above composition.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 29, 2016
Date of Patent: December 10, 2019
    Assignee: San Melix Laboratories, Inc.
    Inventor: Mark R. Wardell
  • Patent number: 10024817
Abstract: Electrochemical biosensing devices and methods detect the activity of proteases and active infection in biological samples. The devices and methods utilize distance constraints between a redox reporter and an electrode to create a change in current that is detected. The distance constraints are released when an analyte containing a specified protease or proteases reacts with a protein substrate sequence in the analyte. The particular protease or proteases to be detected can be selected by using biosensors with particular substrate sequences. The devices and methods are not only qualitative, they can be used to quantitatively evaluate protease content in samples.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 19, 2015
Date of Patent: July 17, 2018
    Assignee: PeloGenix, LLC
Inventors: Mark R. Wardell, Kenneth A. Sabacinski
  • Publication number: 20170216369
Abstract: The invention provides compositions based on either medicinal honey containing broad spectrum antibacterial activities of peroxide, polyphenols and methylglyoxal, or an effective amount of an active anti-inflammatory ingredient of mineral solids fortified with methylglyoxal antibacterial activity, or a mixture of both for the treatment of wounds; and methods of treating a wound, comprising contacting a wound with any one of the above compositions or a wound dressing containing any one of the above compositions.
    Type: Application
    Filed: October 26, 2016
    Publication date: August 3, 2017
Inventors: Kenneth A. Sabacinski, Mark R. Wardell
