  • Publication number: 20050144834
Abstract: Mixed alcohol formulas can be used as a fuel additive in gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, aviation gasoline, heating oil, bunker oil, coal, petroleum coke or as a neat fuel in and of itself. The mixed alcohols formulations can contain C1-C5 alcohols, or in the alternative, C1-C8 alcohols or higher C1-C10 alcohols in order to boost energy content. The C1-C5 mixed alcohols contain more ethanol than methanol with declining amounts of propanol, butanol and pentanol. C1-C8 mixed alcohols contain the same, with declining amounts of hexanol, heptanol and octanol. C1-C10 mixed alcohols contain the same, with declining amounts of nananol and decanol. Synthetically produced mixed alcohol formulas feature higher octane and energy densities than either MTBE or fermented grain ethanol; more stable Reid Vapor Pressure blending characteristics; and increased soluablizing effects on condensate water. The primary benefits of mixed alcohols are increased combustion efficiencies, reduced emissions profiles and low production costs.

  • Patent number: 5582496
Abstract: A jam nut apparatus for fastening to a threaded end of a bolt to secure the bolt where the threaded end has first handed threads includes a locking nut having an internal nut passageway with nut internal threads, the nut passageway having a first passageway end with an inwardly extending locking flange, a bolt end cap having a tubular cap side wall, the cap side wall having an open end with a locking edge and an inner surface with first handed internal threads, for engagingly receiving the threaded end of the bolt, the cap also having an outer surface with second handed external threads opposite to the first handed thread direction, external threads onto which the locking nut threads engagingly fasten, where the locking nut threads are oriented in the second handed direction.

  • Patent number: 5429949
Abstract: A pure bacterial culture, designated herein as M91-3, has been isolated which rapidly degrades certain s-triazines, particularly halogenated s-triazines. The M91-3 degrades s-triazines, particularly atrazine, beyond the point of ring cleavage, leading to complete mineralization of the atrazine. The ability of M91-3 to completely degrade atrazine appears to be unique among bacteria. The M91-3 is capable of degrading s-triazine in solution and in presence of soil or sediment. The invention also relates to a method for degrading s-triazines, particularly atrazine.
