  • Publication number: 20250073049
Abstract: A method for designing a uni-compartmental orthopaedic prosthesis includes generating a three-dimensional statistical model of a knee joint, determining a curvature of a section of a bone of the knee joint represented by the three-dimensional statistical model, and designing a section of the uni-compartmental orthopaedic prosthesis corresponding to the section of the bone of the knee joint to have a curvature that matches the curvature of the section of the bone of the knee joint. Additionally, a tibial and femoral uni-compartmental orthopaedic prosthesis are also disclosed, each of which includes a section having a curvature that matches a corresponding section of a corresponding bone of the knee joint represented by the three-dimensional statistical model.

  • Publication number: 20230293188
Abstract: A unicondylar posterior cutting block, method of use and kit of surgical components are provided, with the cutting block comprising: a base which is mountable on a resected proximal tibial surface of a knee of a patient in use; and a body pivotally attached to the base, the body including an alignment formation arranged to align with a marking on a femur in use, the body defining a cutting guide therein for receiving a cutting instrument to make a unicondylar posterior cut in the femur and wherein moving the alignment formation to align with the marking on the femur causes the body to rotate relative to the base and to tilt the cutting guide relative to the base. Different bases offer different cut positions and rotation of the base offers further different cut positions.

  • Patent number: 8824547
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for video coding are disclosed, particularly for use in relation to video compression. Many commercially available video encoders support constant bit-rate encoding but not constant quality encoding. Aspects of the present invention are concerned with methods and apparatus for video coding, the methods involving the determination of bit-rates at which a constant bit-rate encoder may be operated such that segments of video can be chosen from files encoded at the bit-rates so-determined in order to produce an output bitstream in which the quality is nearly constant. Bit-stream segments may be chosen from a low bit-rate bitstream for easy-to-compress scenes, and from a high bit-rate bitstream for hard-to-compress scenes.

  • Publication number: 20140194858
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a surgical instrument or prosthesis and a surgical instrument or prosthesis so manufactured are described. A first material is injected into a first mould to form an interim component. Portions of the interim component define at least one channel. The maximum wall thickness of the interim component is less than a first threshold determined by the injection moulding properties of the first material. The maximum width of the at least one channel is less than a second threshold determined by the injection moulding properties of a second material. The second material is injected into a second mould containing at least part of the channel of the interim component so that the channel is at least partially filled with the second material.
