  • Patent number: 7691363
Abstract: An active or functional organic compound is solubilized in a phenylethyl ester, e.g. an aryl carboxylic ester of 2-phenylethyl alcohol, as a solvent, cosolvent or additive, to form a composition thereof. Representative active or functional organic compounds include personal care products, e.g. sunscreens containing UVA/UVB absorbing compounds, such as avobenzone and benzophenone-3. • Publication number: 20090016979
Abstract: Basic aluminum chloride (BAC) and aluminum zirconium antiperspirant active of enhanced efficacy are proposed. The acid activated aluminum-zirconium composition having low contents of both glycine and zirconium with Band III/II ration of less than 0.5 is found to provide higher efficacy than the corresponding heat activated aluminum zirconium antiperspirant salt with high HPLC Band III/II ratio and having high contents of both glycine and zirconium at similar M/Cl ratio. According to present invention, the interactions between amino acid such as glycine and aluminum species in BAC and aluminum-zirconium solutions greatly reduce the effective amount of aluminum monomer species, which attributed to the reduced efficacy and stability of the corresponding solutions. The aluminum and aluminum-zirconium antiperspirant salt compositions of enhanced efficacy have low molar ratio of amino acid/or buffer to metal(s) of 0.2 and preferably less than 0.15, with metal(s) to chloride molar ratio of at least 1.1.

  • Publication number: 20080131354
Abstract: A process is provided for the preparation of a novel polyaluminum calcium hydroxychloride composition of enhanced efficiency for water treatment, paper sizing, and antiperspirant applications. The polyaluminum calcium hydroxychloride compositions are prepared via the acidification of higher basicity reaction products to form mid-to-high basicity final products. Two methods are provided for the preparation of higher basicity products, contemplated in the first, and an aqueous acid solution, such as hydrochloric acid, aluminum chloride, or a mixture thereof, is mixed with a strong alkaline calcium salt such as calcium oxide or calcium carbonate and aluminum powder at temperatures greater than 60° C. In a second method, bauxite, aluminum hydrate, or aluminum metal, and calcium aluminate are mixed with hydrochloric acid and are reacted at high temperatures and/or elevated pressures for a certain period of time whereby, when the reaction is complete, the mixtures are filtered to obtain clear solutions.

  • Publication number: 20070286830
Abstract: Novel aluminum antiperspirant compositions of enhanced efficacy activated by both heat and acid are produced comprising basic aluminum salts of having the formula: Al2(OH)6-aXa ?wherein X is Cl?, Br?, l?, or NO3?, a is from abut 1.1 to about 1.7, with basic aluminum chloride being the preferred salt. When analyzed by SEC-HPLC at about 10% concentration (i.e., by 2% Al) in water, these compositions exhibit an SEC-HPLC Band I area of less than 10%, a Band III area of at least 20%, with a Band III/II area ratio of at least 0.7, a Band IV area of at least 20%, and have at least 60% aluminum species contained in Bands III and Band IV.

  • Publication number: 20070196303
Abstract: A novel aluminum antiperspirant active composition of enhanced efficacy is provided. The composition is activated by both heat and acid and characterized by having high HPLC Band III and high HPLC Band IV, prepared by the addition of an acid such as AlCl3 to (1) the aluminum calcium and/or strontium betaine solutions, where the calcium and/or strontium is derived from a soluble salt such as calcium and/or strontium chloride or nitrate and (2) the aluminum calcium and/or strontium glycine and/or betaine solutions, where calcium and/or strontium is from strongly alkaline calcium/strontium oxide or hydroxide. The novel aluminum compositions derived according to the invention have HPLC Band I of less than 2%; a Band III of at least 20%; a Band III/II ratio of at least about 0.7; and a Band IV of at least 20%.
