  • Patent number: 7185015
Abstract: A system and method for updating a system that controls applications requested for execution on a workstation. A workstation management module is configured to detect requested execution of an application. A workstation application server receives data associated with the application from the workstation. The application server module can determine one or more categories to associate with the application by referencing an application inventory database or requesting the category from an application database factory. The application database factory can receive applications from multiple application server modules. The application database factory determines whether the application was previously categorized and provides the category to the application server module; which forwards a hash/policy table to the workstation management module. Upon receipt of the hash/policy table, the workstation management module applies the policy to control access to the requested application on the workstation.

  • Publication number: 20070043916
Abstract: A system and method for using a handler to detect asynchronous lock line reservation lost events, and switching tasks based upon whether a condition is true or a mutex lock is acquired is presented. A synergistic processing unit (SPU) invokes a first thread and, during execution, the first thread requests external data that is shared with other threads or processors in the system. This shared data may be protected with a mutex lock or other shared memory synchronization constructs. When requested data is not available, the SPU switches to a second thread and monitors lock line reservation lost events in order to check when the data is available. When the data is available, the SPU switches back to the first thread and processes the first thread's request.

  • Patent number: 7166952
Abstract: An equivalent to the spatial separation either side of a nominal median plane that is inherent in a bimorph (with one piezoelectric layer on one side, and the second on the other side of the plane) is attained by structurally shaping the cross-section of a simple, single piezoelectric layer (11) such that it has a multiplicity of piezoelectric portions arranged in two generally-planar groups one either side of a median plane, so that any dimension change undergone by a portion on one side of that plane will tend to bend the whole device in the opposite direction to the same sense dimension change undergone by a portion on the other side of that plane. The simple, single layer acts as though it were a bimorph if elongate and beam-like, bending along its length, one end moving up/down, or back/forth, relative to the other but with any need for an internal, electrode.

  • Patent number: 7146529
Abstract: A system and method for a processor thread acting as a system service provider is presented. A computer system boots up and initiates a service thread. The service thread is responsible for service related tasks, such as ECC checks and hardware log error checks. The service provider invokes a second thread which is used as an operational thread. The operational thread loads an operating system, a kernel, and runs various applications. While the operational thread executes, the service thread monitors the operational thread for proper functionality as well as monitoring service events. When the service thread detects a problem with either one of the service events or the operational thread, the service thread may choose to store operational data corresponding to the operational thread and terminates the operational thread.

  • Patent number: 7103520
Abstract: A modeling system predicts natural frequency responses in tube sub-systems including shrouded bellows components. The system determines a stiffness multiplier from input values and uses the determined flexibility factor to determine the natural frequency responses. The input values include geometry inputs and dynamic operating condition inputs. The flexibility factor is determined with a regression equation. The regression equation, based on dynamic stiffness test data of various shrouded bellows configurations, permits the system to characterize the shrouded bellows using a geometry element that includes an assigned flexibility factor based on dynamic stiffness test data.

  • Patent number: 7089373
Abstract: A method and an apparatus are provided for enhancing lock acquisition in a multiprocessor system. A lock-load instruction is sent from a first processor to a cache. In response, a reservation flag for the first processor is set, and lock data is sent to the first processor. The lock data is placed in target and shadow registers of the first processor. Upon a determination that the lock is taken, the lock-load instruction is resent from the first processor to the cache. Upon a determination that the reservation flag is still set for the first processor, a status-quo signal is sent to the first processor without resending the lock data to the first processor. In response, the lock data is copied from the shadow register to the target register.

  • Patent number: 7069795
Abstract: Various sensors use an electro-active device (11) electrically connected to a detector circuit. The electro-active device (11) comprises an electro-active structure in the form of a continuous electro-active member (12) curving in a helix around a minor axis (13) which is in itself curved for example in a helix around a major axis (14). On activation by relative displacement of the ends (16) of the device (11), the electro-active structure twists around the minor axis due to the fact that the minor axis (13) is curved. The continuous member (12) has a bender construction of a plurality of layers (21) and (22) including at least one layer of electro-active material so that concomitantly with the twisting the continuous member (12) bends generating an electrical signal detected by the detector circuit. The electro-active device (11) is advantageous as a sensing element in a sensor because it has a large displacement, high sensitivity and low compliance.
