  • Publication number: 20110125470
Abstract: Generating an optimized supplier allocation plan includes identifying parts and suppliers associated with an allocation problem, where each supplier can supply at least one part. One or more objective functions are selected. Each objective function has part variables, and each part variable represents a quantity of a part to be procured from a supplier. At least one constraint constraining at least one part variable is received. The one or more objective functions are optimized with respect to the at least one constraint to yield a value for each part variable. A quantity of each part to be procured from at least one supplier is determined according to the values to generate the optimized supplier allocation plan.

  • Patent number: 7945789
Abstract: A system and method for securely restoring software program context is presented. A special purpose processor core is included in a heterogeneous processing environment where each processor can access a shared memory. The isolated special purpose processor core includes an isolated local memory. The isolated special purpose processor core receives an identifier corresponding to the secured program. The identifier is used to read an encrypted context of the secured program from the shared memory. The encrypted context is decrypted using an encryption key. The decrypted context is stored in the isolated special purpose processor core's local memory. The secured program's context integrity is verified by using a persistent security data that is retrieved from a secure location, such as a persistent storage register that can only be accessed when the special purpose processor core is running in isolation mode. If the context is verified, the secured program is executed.

  • Publication number: 20110108287
Abstract: An apparatus (100) for controlling the connection speed of downhole connectors (316, 146) in a subterranean well. The apparatus (100) includes a first assembly that is positionable in the well. The first assembly includes a first downhole connector (316) and a first communication medium. A second assembly includes a second downhole connector (146) and a second communication medium. The second assembly has an outer portion and an inner portion. The outer portion is selectively axially shiftable relative to an inner portion, such that upon engagement of the first assembly with the second assembly, the outer portion of the second assembly is axially shifted relative to the inner portion of the second assembly allowing the first and second downhole connectors (316, 146) to be operatively connected to each other, thereby enabling communication between the first communication medium and the second communication medium.

  • Patent number: 7921151
Abstract: A computer system's multiple processors are managed as devices. The operating system accesses the multiple processors using processor device modules loaded into the operating system to facilitate a communication between an application requesting access to a processor and the processor. A device-like access is determined for accessing each one of the processors similar to device-like access for other devices in the system such as disk drives, printers, etc. An application seeking access to a processor issues device-oriented instructions for processing data, and in addition, the application provides the processor with the data to be processed. The processor processes the data according to the instructions provided by the application.

  • Patent number: 7919255
Abstract: A means of measuring and monitoring skeletal growth rate using a plasma analyte, amino-terminal C-type natriuretic peptide (NT-CNP). Plasma NT-CNP concentrations reflect the potential for further growth of the immature skeleton. Measurement of plasma NT-CNP in a subject, when related to the mean of an appropriate age and gender matched set of control subjects, provides an index of the severity of a growth disorder not otherwise available and facilitates diagnosis in children with undetected osteo-chondrodysplasias or other intrinsic disorders of the growth plate. The invention also provides a means of detecting and monitoring potentially harmful effects of drugs and other factors on skeletal growth long before they are evident using current methods in clinical practice.

  • Publication number: 20110072391
Abstract: A method and system for rendering a desktop on a computer using a composited desktop model operating system are disclosed. A composited desktop window manager, upon receiving content information from application programs, draws the window to a buffer memory for future reference, and takes advantage of advanced graphics hardware and visual effects to render windows based on content on which they are drawn. The windows may also be rendered based on environment variables including virtual light sources. The frame portion of each window may be generated by pixel shading a bitmap having the appearance of frosted glass based on the content of the desktop on top of which the frame is displayed. Legacy support is provided so that the operating system can draw and render windows generated by legacy applications to look consistent with non-legacy application windows.

  • Patent number: 7904447
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for directing data access in a local system. The method includes steps of obtaining sharing metadata from the local system by a remote application, wherein the sharing metadata comprises local access path information for accessing a shared data resource associated with the local system, generating, by the remote application, a local access path for the shared data resource from the local access path information, requesting, by the remote application, that a data access application on the local system perform a data operation on the shared data resource, wherein the remote application provides the local access path to the data access application, and receiving the result of the data operation from the data access application, wherein the data access application performs the data operation on the shared data resource using the local access path.

  • Patent number: 7904841
Abstract: A method and system is described for optimizing a digital filter defined by coefficients that are multiplied by input data and accumulated to generate output data. A factorization set of candidate factors is compiled based on the coefficients. For each of the candidate factors, an optimized solution is generated. To generate the optimized solution, the candidate factor is applied to the coefficients and a working set of terms is compiled. Terms in the working set are converted to power-of-two representations and grouped with other terms that have a common partial sum, or multiple of the partial sum, within their respective power-of-two representations. A reduction set is compiled from the grouped terms and an order of application is selected based on optimization objectives. The reduction set is then applied to the working set of terms to generate the optimized solution, which is ranked and stored based on the optimization objectives.

  • Publication number: 20110047207
Abstract: A media content sharing system includes multiple broadcast operation centers that together are configured to automatically acquire and distribute media content among one another based upon the media content needs and inventories of each participating broadcast operation center. The media sharing system architecture eliminates any single-point of system failure such that an inventory of media content corresponding to a particular broadcast operation center remains available to broadcast operation centers remaining on the media content sharing system subsequent to failure of the particular broadcast operation center.

  • Patent number: 7889135
Abstract: An antenna array core comprising a plurality of microwave modules, a control layer, a mounting layer, and a signal distribution layer. The control layer is capable of distributing control signals to the plurality of microwave modules. The plurality of microwave modules are attached to an upper surface of the mounting layer and the mounting layer is made from a heat conductive material capable of cooling the plurality of microwave modules. The signal distribution layer is located below the mounting layer, wherein the signal distribution layer is capable of transmitting microwave signals to the plurality of microwave modules and wherein the arrangement of the plurality of microwave modules on the mounting layer, the control layer, and the wave distribution network form a layered architecture for the antenna core. The architecture is a balance between, size, thermal control, manufacturability, cost, and performance so as to be a unique solution.
