  • Patent number: 9310676
Abstract: The present invention relates generally to an apparatus for embossing a flexible substrate. More specifically, the present invention relates to an apparatus for embossing a curable composition coated flexible substrate with an optically variable image transferred from an embossing foil, especially belt, or sheet of an optically transparent fluoropolymer. The optically variable image is irradiated through the embossing belt, or sheet with ultraviolet light contemporaneously with the embossing so that the transferred imprint pattern cures, hardens, and retains its shape.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 9, 2010
Date of Patent: April 12, 2016
    Assignee: BASF SE
Inventors: Michelle Richert, David R. Boswell, Mark Robert Dicker, Alexander Stuck

More specifically, the present invention relates to an apparatus for embossing a curable composition coated flexible substrate with an optically variable image transferred from an embossing foil, especially belt, or sheet of an optically transparent fluoropolymer. The optically variable image is irradiated through the embossing belt, or sheet with ultra-violet light contemporaneously with the embossing so that the transferred imprint pattern cures, hardens, and retains its shape.

  • Publication number: 20110033664
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for producing a duplicated shim and the duplicated shim obtainable by the method. The duplicated (UV-cured) shim, independent of any carrying device (like a cylinder or belt), can be applied directly to the surface of the transfer roller (and impart the surface OVD structure into a clear lacquer) in a similar way to conventional nickel shims.

  • Publication number: 20100090455
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of printing, an apparatus for printing and to products obtained therefrom. In particular, the present invention relates to optically variable images, or devices applied to a substrate, such as a hologram, kinegram and the like. More particularly, the present invention concerns sub-microscopic, holographic, electron beam, mechanically ruled or other diffraction or straight line gratings.
