Patents by Inventor Mark S. Carron

Mark S. Carron has filed for patents to protect the following inventions. This listing includes patent applications that are pending as well as patents that have already been granted by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

  • Patent number: 4415506
Abstract: The invention is a novel method of treating the distillation residue from the production of phosphorochloridothionates which comprises contacting the residue with a sufficient amount of a separating solution having a specific gravity of about 1.5, preferably phosphoric acid, to produce an organic layer which is easily separated from the remaining residue. The organic layer can be chlorinated to produce additional phosphorochloridothionate product.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 27, 1982
Date of Patent: November 15, 1983
    Assignee: Stauffer Chemical Company
Inventors: Mark S. Carron, Ronald S. La Barbera, Lester P. Van Brocklin, Pawan K. Jain
  • Patent number: 4381190
Abstract: A process for drying and compressing wet chlorine gas with concentrated sulfuric acid in which the drying and compressing are accomplished utilizing alternating mechanical compressors comprising a liquid ring compressor and a second compressor. The process improves the efficiency of drying and liquifying Cl.sub.2 while eliminating the cost for drying towers.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 18, 1981
Date of Patent: April 26, 1983
    Assignee: Stauffer Chemical Company
Inventors: Mark S. Carron, Desmond C. McCarthy
  • Patent number: 4377559
Abstract: The invention is a method of treating the distillation residue from the production of phosphorochloridothionates which comprises draining the residue into agitated cold water to form a slurry and contacting the slurry with chlorine gas in a hydrolyzing zone to decompose the residue and produce decomposition gases in controllable amounts having a decreased sulfur content. The novel method would reduce the amount of sulfur in the decomposition gas and make possible the use of less costly abatement facilities.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 26, 1981
Date of Patent: March 22, 1983
    Assignee: Stauffer Chemical Company
Inventors: Mark S. Carron, Carl C. Greco, Lester P. VanBrocklin, Francis A. Via
  • Patent number: 4364911
Abstract: The invention pertains to a method of treating the distillation residue from the production of phosphorochloridothionates on a continuous or semi-continuous basis. The method comprises, agitating the residue with water to form a slurry which is storable, or pumpable at controlled rates to hydrolyzers for continuous or semi-continuous hydrolysis. The disclosed method, in addition to producing usable byproducts such as sulfur, phosphoric acid and hydrochloric acid also in contrast to prior art methods, significantly decreases fuel consumption and reduces the size and capacity of the facilities utilized to abate the emission of odorous gases to the atmosphere.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 26, 1979
Date of Patent: December 21, 1982
    Assignee: Stauffer Chemical Company
Inventors: Russell B. Caffy, Mark S. Carron, Robert W. Hull, Pawan K. Jain, Harold S. Mickley
