  • Patent number: 6874754
Abstract: An exhaust gas recirculation valve having a reciprocating pintle shaft supported by a sleeve bushing and having a labyrinthine pathway between a valve operating chamber and a shaft/bushing interface to minimize intrusion of exhaust gases into the interface. The labyrinthine pathway is formed between fixed annular elements of the valve body and shaft bushing and a movable annular element of the valve head telescopically disposed between the fixed elements.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 29, 2002
Date of Patent: April 5, 2005
    Assignee: Delphi Technologies, Inc.
Inventors: Todd P. Geib, Craig D. Smith, Christopher D. Marlowe, Mark A. Reeves, Jerry L. Kelly, Mahoro M. Fujita, Mark S. Lockwood, Paul L. Gluchowski

  • Patent number: 5129623
Abstract: An exhaust gas recirculation valve assembly for controlling the recirculation of exhaust gas in an internal combustion engine having a base with an exhaust gas chamber formed therein, a valve assembly having a valve member mounted within the exhaust gas chamber for metering the flow of exhaust gas therethrough, and a valve stem extending out of the chamber through an opening therein, a one piece bearing having upper, intermediate, and lower bearing members for precise positioning of the valve member within the exhaust gas chamber, and a valve stem support assembly for mounting the valve stem relative to an actuator. The intermediate and upper bearing portions operate to deflect exhaust gas, escaping from the exhaust gas chamber and traveling along the valve stem of the valve member, from impinging on the actuator.
