Patent number: 8984653Abstract: An electronic device can be locked and secured by activating a hardware locking mechanism on the device. The locking mechanism is controlled by a locking policy that is defined and implemented from the client side. If the locking mechanism is activated, then the device operates in a limited mode of operation instead of in a normal mode of operation. The locking mechanism can be deactivated, placing the device into the normal mode of operation, when a specified condition is satisfied.Type: GrantFiled: April 3, 2008Date of Patent: March 17, 2015Assignee: Microsoft Technology Licensing, LLCInventors: Mark St. John, Martin Holladay, Todd Carpenter, James Duffus, Ricardo Lopez-Barquilla

Patent number: 8768495Abstract: Automatic recognition of sample media content is provided. A spectrogram is generated for successive time slices of audio signal. One or more sample hash vectors are generated for a time slice by calculating ratios of magnitudes of respective frequency bins from a column for the time slice. In a primary evaluation stage an exact match of bits of the sample hash vector is performed to entries in a look-up table to identify a group of one or more reference hash vectors. In a secondary evaluation stage a degree of similarity between the sample hash vector and each of the group of reference hash vectors is performed to identify any reference hash vectors that are candidates for matching the sample media content, each reference hash vector representing a time slice of reference media content.Type: GrantFiled: June 2, 2011Date of Patent: July 1, 2014Assignee: Adelphoi LimitedInventors: Alexander Paul Selby, Mark St John Owen

Patent number: 7916862Abstract: The invention comprises an encoder for encoding a stegotext and a decoder for decoding the encoded stegotext, the stegotext being generated by modulating the log power spectrogram of a covertext signal with at least one key, the or each key having been added or subtracted in the log domain to the covertext power spectrogram in accordance with the data of the watermark code with which the stegotext was generated, and the modulated power spectrogram having been returned into the original domain of the covertext. The decoder carries out Fast Fourier Transformation and rectangular polar conversion of the stegotext signal so as to transform the stegotext signal into the log power spectrogram domain; subtracts in the log power domain positive and negative multiples of the key or keys from blocks of the log power spectrogram and evaluates the probability of the results of such subtractions representing an unmodified block of covertext in accordance with a predetermined statistical model.Type: GrantFiled: October 9, 2007Date of Patent: March 29, 2011Assignee: Activated Content CorporationInventors: Roger Fane Sewell, Mark St. John Owen, Stephen John Barlow, Simon Paul Long

Patent number: 7429932Abstract: The present invention greatly enhances the user experience when the user is attempting to “teach” an electronic control device the code set used by a remote control unit. In one embodiment, the user is simply instructed to depress a button on the remote control unit. The electronic control device captures the overall waveform of the transmission corresponding to the code representing the depressed button and matches it against codes found in a code set database. If a unique match is found, the full code set data describing the matched code set is retrieved from the code set database and is used by the first electronic control device.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 2004Date of Patent: September 30, 2008Assignee: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Mark St. John Newell, John E. Patent number: 6568391Abstract: An oxygen therapy apparatus for supply of oxygen to patients. The device comprises an inlet port (17) for receiving high pressure oxygen from a cylinder and an outlet port (1) for supplying oxygen to a patient, typically via a single tube cannula (not shown). Three valves control the supply of oxygen to the patient: a diaphragm valve (42) senses the pressure at the outlet (1) and, in particular senses whether the patient is inhaling or exhaling. A valve (36) controls the supply of oxygen to the patient via an inlet jet (25) which is selectably closed by a piston (20) incorporating a flexible seat (24). Movement of the piston (20) is in turn controlled by a pilot valve (37) in dependence on the state of the diaphragm valve (42). The device gives a pulsed output to the patient during inhalation, but shuts off during exhalation to economise on the use of oxygen.Type: GrantFiled: June 28, 2000Date of Patent: May 27, 2003Assignee: Protector Technologies, B.V.Inventors: Andrew Richard Thomas Tatarek, Jonathan Mark St. John Harris

Patent number: 5346057Abstract: An improved endless conveyer belt is provided which can carry minute particles of conveyed product such as are found in packed bed applications, without limiting the ability of the conveyor belt to articulate into a spiraling conveyor stack. The perforations in the foraminous bottom member of the conveyor belt can be dimensioned according to the size of conveyed products. The number and placement of the perforations can be chosen to alter gas flow characteristics of the belt.Type: GrantFiled: October 30, 1992Date of Patent: September 13, 1994Assignee: Philip Morris IncorporatedInventors: Eugene B.
