  • Patent number: 6087248
Abstract: A method of forming a transistor is disclosed that comprises the step forming a gate insulator layer 12 on an outer surface of the substrate 10. A first gate conductor layer 22 is formed outwardly from the gate insulator layer 12. The first gate conductor layer 22 is extremely thin. Dopants are introduced into the layer 22 to render it conductive by using a diffusion source layer 24. The diffusion source layer 24 is then removed and replaced by a second gate conductor layer 26 having low resistance. The layer 26 can be used to form a T-gate structure 28, a flush gate 30, or a conventional gate structure.

  • Patent number: 6076950
Abstract: An integrated lighting assembly (10) includes an injection molded housing that has a base (12) with first fastening elements (22) molded thereon, a cover (18) with second fastening elements (24) molded thereon, and a substrate (16) intermediate the base and cover. An electrical circuit (30) is formed on the substrate and a lighting element (32) is attached to the electrical circuit. A reflective cone (34, 36) surrounds the lighting element to intensify its light and direct light through a diffuser lens (28) formed on the base. A reflective wall (26) on the base reflects light emanating from the diffuser lens in a predetermined pattern. Metal for the reflective surface and electrical circuit is deposited in a single operation. The base and cover are connected to the substrate by living hinges. When the cover is folded onto the base, the first and second fastening elements snap together to form a three dimensional lighting assembly.

  • Patent number: 6019271
Abstract: A method for bonding together at least two conductive members 20, wherein each member includes at least one metallic 22 having a respective bonding area 24. At least one member has a deposition of metallic bonding material 26 attached to each respective conductor proximate each bonding area, and at least one member has a plastic element 28 attached thereto proximate each respective bonding area. The members 20 are positioned in a predetermined orientation, clamped together between an ultrasonic horn and anvil arrangement, with pressure and orthogonal ultrasonic energy being applied thereto so that each plastic element 28 is heated, which in turn melts the bonding material 26. Any plastic element material between the conductors is squeezed away therefrom and the respective conductors 22 are brought into proximity with each other so that a molten joint of bonding material physically contacts each respective conductor.

  • Patent number: 5966946
Abstract: The method of the invention is based on the comparison of local vapor concentrations at the inlet and outlet refrigeration ports and taking action based on that comparison. Control apparatus incorporating the invention is installed inside a refrigeration enclosure, adjacent to a port, preferably at the lowermost port. If the enclosure contains multiple ports at similar height, then each port has a form of the control apparatus attached to it. The control apparatus adjusts a flow of vapor leaving the interior of the enclosure. The control apparatus includes a duct assembly and a blower system. The bottom portion of the duct assembly is a tunnel enclosure through which a conveyor belt passes. Connected to an inside edge of the tunnel enclosure is a duct that extends upward from the conveyor belt. A blower for this duct either sucks vapor away from the conveyor belt or blows vapor from the enclosure interior toward the belt.

  • Patent number: 5895622
Abstract: A composite manufacturing system moves a multi-fiber tow through a processing space. A resin particle source provides particles to the space. This source may include an airstream entrained with particles which is discharged into the space through an orifice; the airstream diverging as it enters the space. An electrode is disposed in the space to electrostatically charge the particles and facilitate deposition of the charged particles on the tow. In one embodiment, the electrode includes a corona wire disposed proximate to the tow to provide a generally cylindrical charging region. An electric field useful to direct deposition of the particles may be generated by appropriately shaping a wire electrode and orienting it in a predetermined manner relative to the tow. After the particles are deposited, a fixation unit may be used to at least partially melt the deposited particles. A processing stage may be included which has a pair of surfaces configured to heat and compress the tow therebetween.

  • Patent number: 5841760
Abstract: A configuration for a SONET transport node comprises a pair of transparent mux/demuxs provided at two sites and connected over a high rate span. The T-Muxs provide continuity of all tribs and maintain a lower bit rate linear or ring system through the higher bit rate span. The lower bit rate linear or ring system operates as if it were directly connected without the higher bit rate midsection. For the forward direction of the traffic, the T-Mux comprises a multi-channel receiver for receiving the trib signals and providing for each trib signal a trib SPE and a trib OH. The trib SPEs are multiplexed into a supercarrier SPE and the trib OHs signals are processed to generate a supercarrier OH. A supercarrier transmitter maps the supercarrier SPE and the supercarrier OH into a supercarrier signal and transmits same over the high rate span. Reverse operations are effected for the reverse direction of traffic.

  • Patent number: 5832227
Abstract: The disclosure of the current invention describes a method of handling a message or a document to be released external of a secure computer environment. The message or the document is first directed to a trusted sealing device which displays the message or the document to a human user for visual checking. If the message or document is acceptable to the human user, the method associates the message or the document with a seal produced by the trusted sealing device. The message or the document is then directed along with the associated seal to a gateway which deletes portions of the header and checks the validity of the associated seal. If, as a result of this verification, it is determined that the associated seal is validly associated with the message or the document, the method attaches predetermined header portions to the message or document and communicates the message or the document from the secure computer environment.

  • Patent number: 5787461
Abstract: A high speed compact disk read only memory drive. In one embodiment, a local storage device containing an optical disk drive, a fast local storage device and RAM are all coupled to controller circuitry. The controller circuitry is coupled to interface circuitry which may be coupled to the bus of an ordinary computer system. The data storage device behaves and responds similar to an ordinary CD-ROM, DVD or hard disk drive to the coupled computer system. The RAM of the disclosed data storage device is configured to store directory information and the local storage device is configured to store executable files from the optical disk drive and cache non-executable data. Non-executable data is replaced in the local storage device in accordance with a least recently used algorithm. Information requests from the coupled computer system are read directly from the RAM or the local storage device as requested with significant increases in read access time and data transfer rates.
