  • Patent number: 7894422
Abstract: A communication processing system handles a plurality of calls. On a call-by-call basis for each of the calls, the system receives a control message indicating a route identifier for the call, receives a voice band communication for the call, and determines if the voice band communication should be compressed. If the voice band communication should be compressed, the system compresses the voice band communication, adds the route identifier from the control message to the compressed voice band communication, and transfers the compressed voice band communication with the route identifier. If the voice band communication should be not compressed, the system adds the route identifier from the control message to the voice band communication and transfers the voice band communication with the route identifier.

  • Patent number: 7376131
Abstract: A communication system receives a signaling message for a voice communication and processes the signaling message to select a route identifier. The system selects a processing technique for the voice communication, such as compression or encryption. The system processes the voice communication with the selected processing technique. The system adds the selected route identifier to the voice communication. The system adds a processing indicator to the voice communication. The system transfers the voice communication with the route identifier and the processing indicator.

  • Patent number: 7203199
Abstract: A system and method for transporting a call having call signaling and voiceband user communications through an asynchronous transfer mode system identifies when compression, encryption, or another processing option has been applied to the voiceband user communications. A first signaling processor processes the call signaling to identify a selected first connection and a processing option, such as a compression method, to be applied to the voiceband user communications. The first signaling processor transports a control message to a first interworking unit identifying the selected connection and the selected compression method. The first interworking unit compresses the voiceband user communications with the selected compression method, sets a convergence sublayer indicator bit as an indicator in an asynchronous transfer mode cell, fills the cell with the compressed voiceband user communications, and transports the cell over the selected connection.

  • Patent number: 6421344
Abstract: The invention is an ATM system to route DS0 traffic from T1 Extended Superframe (ESF)or Superframe (SF) systems that use robbed bit signaling. The invention is able to route the call selecting the ATM VPI/VCI that routes the call within the ATM system. DS0s with robbed bit signaling are transported transparently by the ATM system.

  • Patent number: 6018525
Abstract: The invention is a method for transporting a voice band signal with channel-associated signaling over an ATM system. The method comprises converting the signal into ATM cells so that the sequence numbers in the cells correspond to the location of the signaling in the cells. After transmission over the ATM system, the ATM cells are converted back into the signal using the sequence numbers in the cells to locate the signaling in the cells. The convergence sublayer indication bit of a segmentation and reassembly protocol data unit header of an ATM adaption layer 1 ATM cell can be used as a portion of the sequence numbers so that the sequence numbers can use a repeating 12-count sequence.
