Patent number: 10498059Abstract: A flat electrical cable is described. The cable includes a plurality of equally spaced substantially parallel electrical conductors lying in a same plane and extending along the length of the cable. Each conductor has a same diameter D. The cable further includes a common unitary electrically insulating layer encapsulating the plurality of conductors. The insulating layer includes a plurality of cover portions where each cover portion is concentric with a corresponding conductor and has a radial thickness t. t/D is in a range from about 0.50 to about 1.25.Type: GrantFiled: September 4, 2018Date of Patent: December 3, 2019Assignee: 3M INNOVATIVE PROPERTIES COMPANYInventors: John W. Benedict, James G. Vana, Jr., Rocky D. Edwards, Mark T. Palmer, Richard J. Scherer, Steven A. Neu, Ching-Long Tsai

Patent number: 9520209Abstract: A cable includes a plurality of conductor sets. Each conductor set extending along a length of the cable and includes two or more insulated conductors, each insulated conductor including a central conductor surrounded by a dielectric material that includes polyolefin, a brominated flame retardant, and antimony trioxide. First and second conductive shielding films are disposed on opposite first and second sides of the conductor set, including cover portions and pinched portions arranged such that, in transverse cross section, the cover portions of the first and second shielding films in combination substantially surround the conductor set, and the pinched portions of the first and second shielding films in combination form pinched portions of the conductor set on each side of the conductor set. The cable includes an adhesive layer bonding the first shielding film to the second shielding film in the pinched portions of the conductor set.Type: GrantFiled: February 20, 2013Date of Patent: December 13, 2016Assignee: 3M Innovative Properties CompanyInventors: Chuang-Wei Chiu, Douglas B. Gundel, Haohao Lin, Mark T. Palmer, Eumi Pyun

Patent number: 8185268Abstract: A radio communication device (100) for use in a public safety vehicle is provided with a user interface that combines tactile landmarks in the form of global tactile landmarks and local tactile landmarks along with affordances to orient a user's hand and fingers in conjunction with a sequential task flow interface) for mission critical tasks. Communication device (100) comprises a housing (102) having mission critical controls (116) comprising a pursuit dial (122) mounted on a circular platform (206) with siren controls (124) and light controls (126) grouped on either side of the platform. The mission critical controls (116) are laid out in a manner that provides a sequential user flow across escalating urgency. Ridges (208, 210), chamfered edges (402, 404) and edge reliefs (502) provide further affordances so that a user can intuitively position hand and fingers to locate various controls without having to visually focus on the communication device, thus allowing the user to focus on the current mission.Type: GrantFiled: November 15, 2008Date of Patent: May 22, 2012Assignee: Motorola Solutions, Inc.Inventors: Jari P. Jarvinen, Shirish M. Kaner, Mark T. Palmer
